A pot experiment was conducted with five aromatic rice genotypes viz., Binadhan-13, BRRI dhan34, RM-100-16 and Kalizira at BINA, Mymensingh during July to December 2013. Control (100% FC) and water stress (30% FC) treatment were imposed at flowering stage and continued until maturity. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications. Grain dry weight, photosynthetic rate and chlorophyll contents in flag leaf decreased with water stress. The highest grain dry weight, photosynthetic rate and chlorophyll contents were fond in Binadhan-13. Chlorophyll contents of all the mutants/varieties were identical unlike Binadhan-13. Grain dry weight increased with age till 24 days after anthesis followed by a plateau whereas SPAD reading and photosynthetic rate decreased with grain age until physiological maturity.

To assess the effect of water stress on photosynthesis, grain growth and chlorophyll stability of rice genotypes and to find out stress tolerant variety

A pot experiment was carried out with five aromatic rice genotypes viz., Binadhan-13, BRRI dhan34, Ukunimadhu and Kalizira at Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), Mymensingh during July to December 2013. Control (100% FC) and water stress (30% FC) treatment was imposed at flowering stage of the genotypes. The experiment was laid out in randomized design with three replications. Grain dry weight of 10 grains of selected panicles, chlorophyll content (SPAD reading) and photosynthetic rate of flag leaf were measured at 3 days' interval from fertilization to maturity. Data were statistically analyzed and Duncan's Muliple Rang Test (DMRT) compared the means.

Grain dry weight, photosynthetic rate and chlorophyll contents of the rice genotypes decreased with water stress. Binadhan-13 had the highest photosynthetic rate, grain dry weight and chlorophyll content. Grain dry weight increased with grain age but photosynthetic rate and chlorophyll content of flag leaf decreased until physiological maturity.
