Time Sowing Effect on Growth and Yield of Summer Mungbean Mutants/varieties

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Mutants/varieties showed significantly differences for the sowing dates for all the studied characters. Binamoog-5 produced the highest yield at Feb. 20 sowing (1240.7 kg ha^-1). The yield of the line N₅J-521 (1108.5 kg ha^-1) was followed by Binamoog-5 and it showed its best yield performance on Feb.20 sowing also. The seed yields of all mutant lines/variety were poor as compared Feb.20 sowing.

Objectives:

To evaluate the yield performances of some selected summer mungbean mutants/varieties as affected by time sowing

Methodology:

Three mungbean mutants with two check varieties were assessed under two dates of sowing during summer season, 2005. The mutants were N₂M-402, N₅J-521 and E₄I-913 and the check varieties were Barimoog-5 and Binamoog-5. Dates of sowing were Feb.10 and Feb.20, 2005. The location was BINA sub-station at Magura. The experiment used randomized complete block design with three replications. A unit plot size was 3m x 1.5m. The basal fertilizer doses were @ 25, 30 and 20 kg/ha of N, P₂O₅ and K₂O, respectively. The whole amount of fertilizers was applied at the time of final land preparation before seed sowing in line. At maturity, seed yield was recorded from one linear meter from three random spots of each plot. Yield and yield attributes were collected from randomly selected 10 plants each plot. The data were analyzed as per the design used and the treatment means compared with DMRT.

Achievement/Findings:

Three summer mungbean mutants viz. N₂M-402, N₅J-521 and E₄I-913, with two check varieties, Barimoog-5 and Binamoog-5, were evaluated in two sowing dates (Feb 10 and Feb 20) times at Magura. Mutant line N₅J-521 produced highest yield (1109 kg ha^-1) on Feb.20 sowing. Between the two check varieties, the seed yield of Binamoog-5 was higher than Barimoog-5 and it had also the highest yield (1241 kg ha^-1) among the mutants/varieties for the same sowing time.
