Yield and Yield Attributes of Tomato Mutant Lines/variety as Affected by Transplanting Time and Spacing

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

At Rangpur, yield and yield parameters showed significant differences over transplanting dates in Rangpur location. Nov.20 transplanting and 30 cm x 30 cm produced the highest yield by all mutant lines TM-130 (74.0. t ha^-1), TM-135 (82 t ha^-1) and Baritomato-7 (48.5 t ha^-1). The yields of the mutant lines ranged from 46–82, 34-50 and 16-32 t ha^-1 for Nov.20, Nov.30 and Dec.10, respectively and at Magura, the mutant lines showed significant variations on all the plant character under different spacing. The mutant line TM-135 yielded higher (83. t ha^-1) with closer spacing (30cmx30 cm). The mutant line TM-130 produced the lowest yield (56.2 t ha^-1) due to wider spacing (50cmx50cm).

Objectives:

The objective was to evaluate the yield performances of tomato mutant lines/variety as affected by transplanting dates and spacing

Methodology:

Two tomato mutant with a check variety were assessed under three dates of transplanting and 3 spacing at the BINA sub-station, Rangpur and Magura during rabi season, 2004-2005. The mutants were TM-135, TM-130 and the check variety was Baritomato-7.The dates of transplanting were: Nov.20, Nov.30 and Dec.10. The spacing treatments were viz., 30 cm x 30 cm, 40 cm x 40 cm and 50 cm x 50 cm. A unit plot size was 1.5 m x 3 m with three replications. The design used RCBD. Data on yield and yield attributes were recorded at maturity. At Magura, the 2^nd and third time planting was damaged and as such only spacing effect of Nov. planting data were presented. The data were analyzed as per design used and the treatment means were compared by DMRT.

Two tomato mutants (TM-135 and TM-130) with a check variety (Baritomato-7) three plant spacing (30cm x 30cm, 40cm x 40cm and 50cm x 50cm) were evaluated in three sowing dates (Nov.20, Nov.30 and Dec.10) in two locations (Rangpur and Magura). Mutant line TM-135 produced highest yield (82 t ha^-1) at Rangpur on Nov.20 planting with 30cm x 30cm spacing . It resulted the highest yield (84 t ha^-1) with same spacing and planting time at Magura.
