Performances of Yield and Yield Attributes of Advanced Rice Mutants/lines in Aman Season

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

All the growth parameters recorded at different growth stages from 35-65 DAT with 15 days interval differed significantly among the advanced lines/variety. The check variety Binadhan-4 produced the maximum relative growth rate. The yield and yield components recorded at harvest were found significantly different among the rice lines/variety. Among them DM-25 produced the highest plant height (125.3 cm), and spikelets panicle^-1 (122.2). Advanced line PR-26305-M-2 produced the highest number of total tillers hill^-1 (10.1), panicles hill^-1 (8.1) and harvest index (45.3%). The advanced line RD-25’86 produced the highest 1000-grain weight (28.47 g), grain yield (5.18 t ha^-1) and straw yield (6.73 t ha^-1). The check variety Binadhan-4 produced the highest number of grains panicle^-1 (99.4).

Objectives:

To assess performances in relation to growth, yield and yield components, with advanced rice lines

Methodology:

An experiment was conducted in the farm of Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture, Mymensingh during July-November, 2004 to assess performances in relation to growth, yield and yield components, with five advanced rice lines, PNR-381, RD-25’86, PR-26305-M-2, TNDB-100 and DM-25 and a check variety Binadhan-4. A unit plot was 4 m × 3 m. The design used randomized complete block design with three replications. The plots were fertilized with 75, 20, 40, 10 and 2 kg ha^-1 of N, P, K, S, Zn from the sources of urea, triple super phosphate, muriate of potash, gypsum and zinc oxide. All except urea were applied at final land preparation in full amount. Urea was applied in three equal splits. The experiment was transplanted on August 1, 2004 with 28 day-old seedling @ 3 seedlings hill^-1 and planting spacing 20 cm x 15 cm. Different cultivars matured at different dates ranging from 22 October to 10 November, 2004 and accordingly the crop was harvested.

Achievement/Findings:

Five advanced rice lines (PNR-381, RD-25’86, PR-26305-M-2, TNDB-100 and DM-25) with a check variety (Binadhan-4) were evaluated for yield performance as Aman crop. The mutant RD-25’86 produced highest grain yield (5.18 t ha^-1) and its yield was similar with the check and advanced lines PR-26305-M-2 and TNDB-100.
