An experiment  was carried out in Lysimeter at the farm of Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture, Mymensingh, during the Rabi (dry) season, 1994-95 to determine a suitable irrigation schedule of wheat following different approaches. Irrigation schedules were done on the basis of meteorological approach (IW/CPE ratio of 0.6 and 0.9), growth stages and available soil moisture depletion (ASMD).Grain and straw yields and yield attributes such as number of effective tiller/m2, length of ear, fertile spikelets/ear and mean grain wt. were influenced by different irrigation schedules. The maximum grain yield was obtained with 7 irrigations scheduled on the basis of 75% depletion of available soil moisture. Considering frequency of irrigation and water use efficiency, optimum yield was obtained with 2 irrigations – one at CRI stage and the other at flowering stage based on IW/CPE ratio of 0.6.

To determine a suitable irrigation schedule of wheat following different approaches.

An experiment  was carried out in Lysimeter at the farm of Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture, Mymensingh, during the Rabi (dry) season, 1994-95 to determine a suitable irrigation schedule of wheat following different approaches.

Irrigation schedules were:

T0 = Control (no irrigation)

T1= Irrigation upto field capacity at a depletion of 75% of available soil moisture (ASMD).

T2 = Irrigation at CRI stage + vegetative stage + heading stage + grain formation stage upto field capacity

T3 = Irrigation at CRI stage and later irrigation at IW/CPE ration of 0.9

T4 = Irrigation at CRI stage and later irrigation at IW/CPE ration of 0.6

IW = irrigation water

CPE = cumulative pan evaporation

The maximum grain yield of wheat can be obtained with 7 irrigations scheduled on the basis of 75% depletion of available soil moisture.
