Salinity Tolerance Studies in Some Boro Rice Lines/varieties

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A pot experiment was carried out with four rice lines/varieties under different salinity regimes using nutrient solution at BINA, Mymensingh during July to December 1992. Six salinity treatments viz., control, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9, 1.2 and 1.5% were imposed on four rice lines/varieties viz., BINA-3, BINA-163, Binnatoa (local) and Iratom-24. The experiment was laid out in completely randomized design with four replications. All the lines/varieties showed sussibtibility to salinity. Iratom-24 showed less susceptibility.

Objectives:

To assess the effect of salinity on rice genotypes and to find out salt tolerant genotype

Methodology:

A pot experiment was conducted with four rice lines/varieties under different salinity levels using nutrient solution at BINA, Mymensingh during July to December 1992. Two rice lines BINA-3 and BINA-163 and two varieties Binnatoa (local) and Iratom-24 were used in this study. The salinity treatments were control, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9, 1.2 and 1.5% commercial salt. The pH of the solution was maintained at 4.5. Each pot contained 4.5 liter nutrient solution and two rice hills. The experiment was laid out in completely randomized design with four replications. Data on plant height, total dry matter per hill, 1000-grain weight and yield per hill were recorded at maturuty. Data were analyzed statistically and Least Significant Difference (LSD) was used to compare the means.

Achievement/Findings:

Most of the rice lines/varieties showed suceptibility to salinity and Iratom-24 showed less suceptibility.
