Preliminary Assessment of Water Stress Effect at Different Growth Stages on Growth and Yield in Lentil Lines

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experimnt was carried out with 98 lines of llentil at BINA, Mymensingh during Novmber 1990 to February 1991. Three treatments viz., control, water stress (25% FC) at flowering stage and water stress (25% FC) at grain filling stage were imposed . The experiment was laid out in completely randomized design with three replications. Three lines (ML-5, ML-41 andML-370) showed higher root mass although their shoot mass drastically reduced compared to their control. The highest total dry matter per plant was found in ML-596 under soil moistute stress. Out of 98 line 5 lines (ML-5, ML-20, ML-30, ML-596 and L-112) showed better yield performance under low soil moisture.

Objectives:

Methodology:

A pot experiment was conducted with a total of 98 lines of lentil along with mutant ML-30 and the mother local cultivar L-112 at BINA, Mymensingh during November 1990 to February 1991. Each pot contained 4 kg soil and 3 plants. Three treatments viz., control, water stress (25% FC) at flowering and water stress (25% FC) at grain filling stages were imposed. The experiment was laid out in completely randomized design with three replications. Data on root, shoot, root-shoot ratio, total dry matter and yield per pot were recorded.

Out of 98 lines of lentil 5 lines viz. ML-5, ML-20, ML-30, ML-596 and L-112 showed better yield performance under low soil moisture (25% FC).
