Growth and Yield Performances of Some Advanced Mutant Lines of Lentil Under Irrigated and Rainfed Conditions

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted with seven lines of lentil along with a variety L-5 at Ishurdi RARS farm, Pabna during November 1990 to February 1991 under irrigated and rainfed conditions. The experiment was laid out in split plot design with four replications. Three irrigation was done, one after 2 weeks of germination, one at pre-floweringand the last one at the grain filling stage. Line BLL-84248 produce better total dry matter but lower harvest index in rainfer condition. But the line BL-81122 was found to be the highest yielder in both rainfed and irrigated treatments by virtue of its higher total dry matter as well as higher harvest index.

Objectives:

To identify lentil line that may give higher yield under low soil moisture

Methodology:

Three advanced mutant lines of lentil (ML-10, ML-30, ML-36) four advanced lentil lines from RARS, Ishudi (BL-81122, BLL-84228, BLL-84248 and line 113-55) and a variety L-5 were grown under field condition at Ishuridi during November 1990 to February 1991 under both irrigated and raifed condition. The design of the experiment was split plot with 4 replications. Irrigation treatments were in the main plots and lines were in the sub-plots. Irrigation was done 3 times, one after 2 weeks of germination, one at pre-flowering and the last one at the grain filling stage. The plot size was 2m x 1.5 m and the spacing was 30 cm x 5 cm. At maturity, 10 plants were randomely selected and data on plant height, total dry matter and yield per plant and harvest index were recorded. Chlorophyll was extracted in 80% acetone and stimated according to Arnon (1949). Data were analyzed statistically and Least Significant Difference (LSD) was used to compare the means.
