Influence of Organic Amendment on Blast Disease Management in Rice

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An investigation was carried out to find out the effectiveness of organic sources to control blast disease of rice.The experiment was carried out in boro season at BRRI farm, Plant Pathology Division, Gazipur and variety BRRI dhan 29 was used. Seven treatments were used for this experiment. Treatments were: T1: rice husk @ 2.5 t/ha, T2: rice husk ash@ 2.0 t/ha, T3: Nativo (2 spray) , T4: Na2SiO3 @ 300 kg/ha, T5: Rice husk ash 2.0 t/ha + Nativo (1 spray), T6: disease control and T7: healthy control. Treatments were arranged in RCB design with 3 Replications. Plot size was 2mx3m and inoculation was done at maximum tillering stage. Data was recorded on: % leaf and %tiller infection, disease incidence (%) and severity, yield (t/ha). There is no significant difference found in terms of neck blast incidence and yield among the treatments. Neck blast incidence was found higher in T4 and T6. Na₂SiO₃(T4) performed moderate to minimize neck blast. Neck blast incidence was found lower in T5 (rice husk ash + Nativo), T3(Nativo) and in T7 (Healthy control). In addition grain yield was found higher and no significant difference was found in T5 (8.9 t/ha) and T3 (8.6 t/ha) compared to healthy control T7. From this experiment it was found that rice husk ash 2.0 t/ha + Nativo (1 spray) can minimize blast incidence and also gave better yield. This findings help to reduce chemical spray and to get better yield by adding organic amendment as rice husk ash for blast disease management.
