Comperism Among Biocontrol Means and Fungicides in Controlling Root Rot (fusarium Solani) of Chickpea

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted in Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture, Mymensingh to determine the effect of different fungicides and biocontrol means in controlling root rot of chickpea by seed treatment. The germination of chickpea was found to be increased by treating seeds with Secure 600WG (51.03%) and Folicure 200W (51.03%) followed by BAU-Biofugicide (48.98%) over control. Pre-emergence death of chickpea was found to be decreased by treating seeds with Secure 600WG (96.16%) and Folicure 200W (96.16%) followed by BAU-Biofungicide (92.30%) over control. Disease incidence decreased by treating seeds with Secure 600WG (74.04%) which followed by Heprodin 50WP (73.94%), BAU-Biofungicide (73.64%), Provax 200WP (73.32%) over control. Plant stand were increased by seeds treating with Secure 600WG (98.67%) which was statistically similar to seed treat with Heprodin 50WP (98.53%), BAU-Biofungicide (98.13%) and Provax 200WP (97.71%) over control. Shoot length (38.41%), root length (66.83%), vigour index (122.44%), shoot dry weight (117.78%) and root dry weight (158.33%) were increased when seeds were treated with BAU-Biofungicide over control.

Objectives:

To evaluate the fungicides and bio-control agents in controlling root rot of chickpea.

Methodology:

An experiment was conducted under pot condition in Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), Mymensingh, Bangladesh during 13 December 2012 to 12 March 2013. The experiment was conducted in CRD (Completely Randomized Design) with five replications. The following fifteen treatments were used in seed treatment. Provax 200WP (@ 2.5g/kg), Dithen M-45 (@ 2.5g/kg), Bavistin (@ 2.5g/kg), Mancosil (@ 2.5g/kg), Heprodin 50WP (@ 2.5g/kg), Secure 600WG (@ 2.5g/kg), Gaivet (@ 2.5g/kg), Du-Du 70SL (@ 2.5ml/kg), Folicure 200W (@ 2.5ml/kg), Timsen (@ 2.5g/kg), Sclerotium rolfsii (@ 2.5ml/kg), Jarul leaf (@ 2.5ml/kg), BAU-Biofungicide (@ 3%), Panthopadop leaf extract (@ 2.5ml/kg), Control. Fusarium oxysporum, Fusarium solani and Sclerotium rolfsii were inoculated in pot (6g/pot) soil before 48 hrs of seeds sowing. For each treatment 125 seeds were taken in a beaker and few drops of water were added for moistening the seed surface uniformly to allow maximum adherence of dust Chemicals @ 2.5g/kg, liquid chemicals @ 2.5ml/kg and plant extract @ 2.5 ml/kg of seeds. Seeds were treated with BAU-Biofungicide @ 3% of seed weight until the whole surfaces of seeds were coated with the BAU-Biofungicide (Naznin and Hossain, 2004). Treated seeds were sown in pots about 2.0 cm depth and immediately the seeds were covered with soil. Seeds were sown @ 25 seeds per pot. The seeds were sown at afternoon on 13^thDecember 2012. Then shoot length, root length, dry shoot weight and dry root weight were taken. From shoot length, root length and percent germination, Vigour index (VI) was calculated. The difference between the treatments means were evaluated for significance using Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) following the procedure as described by Gomez and Gomez (1984).
