Zonal Yield Trial of M7 Mutant Lines for Bulb Yield Potentials of Some Onion Mutants in Kharif Ii Season

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

It was clear that all the mutants had significantly higher number of leaf plant^-1 than that of the check variety BARI Piaj-3. The mutant BP₂/75/2 had the highest number of leaf plant^-1 followed by BP₂/100/2 and BP₂/100/1. All the mutants had larger diameter than the check variety. Two mutants among the three had significantly higher bulb weight than the check variety. All the mutants had significantly higher fresh and dry bulb weight than the check variety. All the mutants except BP₂/75/2 had significantly higher yield than that of the check variety.

Objectives:

To assess genotype-environment interaction of M₇ mutant lines for bulb yield potentials in Kharif II season

Methodology:

This experiment was carried out to assess bulb yield potentials of some onion mutants in Kharif-II season. BARI Piaj-3 was included as check varieties. Sets were transplanted at Magura sub-station farm following RCB design with 3 replications. The study was conducted following RCB design with 3 replications. A unit plot size was 2.0 m × 1.65 m. Plants were spaced at 15 cm within rows of 20 cm apart. Recommended doses of farm yard manure and fertilizers were applied during final land preparation. Data on number of leaves at vegetative stage and bulb diameter were recorded from randomly selected ten competitive plants. Fresh bulb weight was recorded from whole plot at harvest. Dry bulb weight was recorded after 1.5-2 months of harvest and finally converted to yield ha^-1. Finally, the collected data were subjected to proper statistical analyses in Microsoft Excel, 2003.
