Advanced Yield Trial of Selected Broccoli Lines

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted at research field of Olericulture Division, Horticulture Research Centre, BARI, Gazipur during the winter season of 2014-2015 with two selected OP broccoli lines with BARI Broccoli 1 as check to evaluate their yield performance. In respect of days to 50% curd initiation and curd harvest no significance different was found.The highest curd length (14.78 cm) was recorded from the line BOI-014. The highest curd weight/ plant (456.10g) was obtained from the line BOI-014 which was followed by the check variety (402.80g) while the lowest curd weight/ plant (349.30 g) was obtained from the line BOI-002. The highest marketable curd weight/ plant (615.10 g) was recorded from the line BOI-014. While the lowest marketable curd weight/ plant (528.00g) was recorded from the line BOI-002. The highest per hectare curd yield (24.68 t) was recorded from the line BOI-014 followed by the check variety (23.64t). On the basis of earliness, uniform curd shape, compactness and yield the line BOI-014 was selected for regional yield trial to verify the yield performance.

Objectives:

The study was conducted to see the yield potential of the last year selected two advanced broccoli lines.

Methodology:

The study was conducted at the experimental farm of Olericulture Division, HRC, BARI, Gazipur during November, 2014 to April, 2015. Last year selected two advanced broccoli lines were selected and variety BARI Broccoli 1 (check) was used as check in the treatment. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with three replications. The unit plot size was 5 x 1m maintaining 50 x 40 cm spacing. The seeds were sown on seed bed on 5th November, 2014 and 30 days old seedlings were transplanted in the main field on 4th December, 2014. The land was fertilized with cowdung-N-P-K-S-Zn-B @10t-76-32-70-14.5-3.60-0.34 kg/ha respectively. The entire quantity of cowdung, P, S, Zn, B and 1/3rd of K were applied during final land preparation .The remaining K were applied in 3 equal installments at 15, 30 and 45 days after transplanting. N was applied in 4 equal installments at 7, 15, 30 and 45 days after transplanting. The intercultural operations such as weeding, irrigation etc. were done as and when necessary. Based on plant growth, earliness, curd weight, curd shape, size, compactness and curd colour 5 plants were selected from each replication. Data on different parameters such as days to 50% curd initiation, days to curd harvest, curd length (cm), curd breadth (cm), whole plant weight (kg), only curd weight (g), marketable curd weight (g) and curd yield (ton) were recorded and statistically analyzed.

Achievement/Findings:

Considering earliness, curd size, curd compactness and yield potentiality the line BOI-014 may be recommended for regional yield trial for next year.
