Eight Bush bean lines and varieties were evaluated to observe their reaction against foot rot causing pathogen Sclerotium rolfsii at pot house of plant pathology division, BARI, Gazipur. Among 9 lines/varieties of bush bean, most of them showed highly susceptible (HS) reaction except L4 which showed Susceptible (S) reaction.

This study was undertaken to find out resistant varieties/lines of bush bean against foot rot disease

Three varieties, BARI Bush bean 1, BARI Bush bean 2 and BARI Bush bean 3 were collected from HRC, BARI, Gazipur. Five local lines were collected from OFRD, BARI, Sylhet. The experiment was conducted in seed bed, soil infested with S. rolfsii. 7 seeds in a line were sown in seed bed. The line will be replicated thrice. A blotting paper test was carried out to know the germination percentage. Disease reaction foot rot disease of bush bean caused by S. rolfsii was graded on a 0-4 scale: where, 0 = no disease (I), 1 = 5% disease (R), 2 = 6-25% diseases (MR), 3 = 26-50% diseases (S) and 4 = 51-100% diseases (HS) (Chester, 1950).

Every lines/varieties showed high germination percentage in blotter paper test. Among 8 lines and varieties only L4 showed susceptible (S) and others showed highly susceptible (HS) interaction. No lines were found  resistant
