Evaluation of Chilli Germplasm Against Rhizoctonia Solani

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted in the research field of PGRC, BARI during 2014-15 cropping season to evaluate the performance of chilli lines for searching of wilt disease resistant variety. Sixty five chilli germplasm were used. Sixteen chilli germplasm showed highly resistant reaction. Among the others, Eighteen germplasm were seems to be resistant and seventeen germplasm were moderately resistant.

Objectives:

To screen the chilli germplasm / lines against Rhizoctonia solani

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted with 65 chilli accessions/lines in PGRC field during 2014-15 cropping season.One month old seedlings of chilli were transplanted at 50 cm distance from row to row whereas plant to plant distance was 30 cm. Wilted plants were counted periodically and converted to percent wilt. The reaction of the lines was graded based on wilted plants using a standard scale (Saha 2001) such as 0 = no wilted plant (HR), 1 = up to 10% plants wilted (R), 2 = 11-25% plants wilted (MR), 3 = 26-50% plants wilted (MS), 4 = 51 – 70% plants wilted (S) and 5 = above 70% plants wilted (HS).

Achievement/Findings:

Disease resistant reactions of 65 germplasm against foot rot disease of chilli have been studied. Variable disease resistant reaction was observed on the basis of wilting. Among the 65 accessions, sixteen lines were graded as highly resistant against wilt of chilli where 0% wilt. Eighteen accessions were found resistant and seventeen lines were seems to be moderately resistant. Eleven lines were moderately susceptible and rests of the lines were found susceptible. The moderately resistant and moderately susceptible accessions/lines will be tested further for confirmation with other accessions.
