Regional Yield Trial of Selected Bold Seeded Hyacinth Bean Lines

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An evaluation trial was conducted with selected three advanced bold seeded hyacinth bean lines with a check variety BARI Sheem 4 at Joydebpur, Raikhali, Jessore, Hathazari and Jamalpur locations of BARI during winter season of 2014-15 to observe their yield and yield potentiality and quality of green pod and green seed. On an average, the advanced line LPR 125 produced the highest green pod yield (18.13 t/ha) followed by the line CBR 204 (17.93 t/ha) and the lowest in BARI Sheem 4 (16.61 t/ha). In case of green seed yield the highest yield was obtained form the advanced line CBR 204 (8.33 t/ha) which was closely followed by the line LPR 125 (7.62 t/ha). Among the locations, in Raikhali and Jessore all the lines showed the best potentiality in respect of both green pod yield and green seed yield compared to other locations. While the lowest pod and seed yield was obtained from RARS Jamalpur for all the lines. Considering higher green pod yield as well as green seed yields the advanced lines CBR 204 and CBR 125 may be recommended for release as a bold seeded hyacinth bean variety.

Objectives:

To evaluate the selected advanced bold seed producing hyacinth bean lines in respect to higher green seed yield and quality.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at experimental field of Joydebpur, Raikhali, Jessore, Hathazari and Jamalpur locations of BARI during rabi season of 2014-2015. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with four replications. Two advanced bold seeded hyacinth bean lines i.e. LPR125 and CBR204 along with check variety BARI Sheem 4 were included in this trial. Seeds were sown in polybag on August, 2014. Seventeen days old seedlings were transplanted in the main field at 1.5 x 2.0 m spacing. Manures and fertilizers were applied @ 10 ton cowdung, 60 kg urea, 200 kg TSP, and 150 kg MP per hectare. Half of the cowdung was applied during land preparation. The remaining half of cowdung, entire quality of TSP and half of each urea and MP were applied during pit preparation. The rest of MP and urea were applied as top dressing after 30 days of transplanting. Intercultural operations like support for the plant (macha), weeding, mulching and irrigation and application of insecticides and pesticides were done as and when necessary. Data on yield and yield attributes were recorded properly and mean data were analyzed statistically for interpretation of the results.
