The trial was conducted during the Rabi season of 2014 – 2015 at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Burirhat, and Rangpur to determine the spray schedule of Mancozeb in controlling late blight of susceptible and resistant varieties of potato. There were two resistant varieties namely BARI Alu-46 and BARI Alu-53 and a susceptible variety Diamant. Four spray schedule of Mancozeb (Dithane M 45@ 0.2%) were one time spray; two times spray; three times spray and four times spray. One unsprayed plot was maintained for each variety. Among the varieties significantly lower diseases were observed in the two resistant varieties than the susceptible variety. In case of yield significantly the highest yield was obtained from the resistant variety BARI Alu-46. Although the yield of other resistant variety (BARI Alu-53) was higher than the susceptible variety but it was significantly similar. In the interaction of variety and spray schedule it is observed that in case of susceptible variety significantly the yield was increased as the number of spray was increased. But in case of resistant variety BARI Alu-46 although the highest yield was obtained from four sprays it was statistically similar to three sprays and two spray. In BARI Alu-53 the highest yield was obtained from four sprays which was statistically different from three sprays and two spray.

The present experiment had been conducted to determine the effective spray of Mancozeb schedule for managing the disease late blight of potato.

The trial was conducted during the rabi season of 2014 – 2015 at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Burirhat, Rangpur to determine the spray schedule of mancozeb in controlling late blight of susceptible and resistant varieties of potato. There were two resistant varieties namely BARI Alu-46 and BARI Alu-53 and a susceptible variety Diamant. Four spray schedule of mancozeb (Dithane M-45@ 0.2%) were one time spray; two times spray; three times spray and four times spray. One unsprayed plot was also maintained for each variety. The recommended fertilizer dose developed by Tuber Crops Research Center (TCRC), BARI was followed.  Well decomposed cow dung and zinc sulphate was spread to soil before opening of land. A split application of Urea i.e. ½ of the recommended and full doses of TSP, MoP, Gypsum, Magnesium sulphate and boric acid were applied as row placement besides 5-7 cm of the seed planting rows on both sides. The remaining half of Urea was applied as side applications at 30 DAP and followed by earthing up of soil by spade. Other agronomic practices were done properly. The experiment was laid out in split plot design with three replications with varieties in the main plots and spray schedule in the sub plots. The unit plot size was 2m x 1.8m where tubers were planted maintaining 60 cm X 25 cm spacing between two rows and from tuber to tuber. The seed tubers were planted on 26 November, 2014. Spraying was started at 30 days after planting. In case of 2, 3 and 4 spray the spray interval was 10 days.  Severity of the disease was estimated by eye estimation considering the whole plot at 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80 DAP.  Haulm pulling was done 90 days after planting and harvesting was completed 10 days after haulm pulling. Yield data was recorded from the whole plot and converted into ton/ha.

Among the varieties significantly lower disease was observed in the two resistant varieties than the susceptible variety. In case of yield significantly the highest yield was obtained from the resistant variety BARI Alu-46 .  It is revealed that disease severity was gradually decreased as the numbers of sprays were increased. Although the yield of other resistant variety (BARI Alu–53) was higher than the susceptible variety but it was statistically similar. It is revealed that disease severity was gradually decreased as the number of spray was increased. In the interaction of variety and spray schedule it was observed that in the unsprayed plots in susceptible variety (Diamant) the disease severity was 90% at 70 DAP but in both the resistant variety the severity was 20%. In case of all varieties the disease severity were decreased as the numbers of spray were increased. In case of yield the highest yield 69.95 t/ha was obtained from the resistant variety BARI Alu-46 with four times spray but the yield was statistically similar with three spray and two spray. In case of susceptible variety significantly the yield was increased as the number of spray was increased. In case of BARI Alu-53 the highest yield of 50.88 t/ha was obtained from four times spray but the yield was statistically different with three spray.
