Candidate Variety Trial or Zonal Yield Trial of Upland Cotton (gossypium Hirsutum L)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted in seven (7) locations of different zones during the year 2011-12. Four advanced lines encoded BC-037, SR-01, BC-0303 and JA/08/E were included in this experiment. CB-9 was taken as local control. On the basis of seven (7) location's data, it was found that treatments showed significance different in days to 1^st flowering, days to 1^st boll split single boll weight and seed cotton yield. The treatment JA/08/E showed the highest yield (2495 kg/ha).The highest GOT% was found JA/08/E in (40.27%).

Objectives:

To test the yield potentiality and quality performances of the advanced lines.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at 7(seven) zones such as Jessore, Jhenaidha, Chuadanga, Kustia Bogra Rangpur and Rajshahi. Four (4) advanced lines were included in this experiment, encoded BC-037,SR-01, BC-0303 and JA/08/E. CB-9 was taken as local control. Unit plot size was 30m x 8.91 m. The augmented design was followed 90 cm x 45 cm plant spacing was maintained. Two or three water soaked seed were sown per hole. Two times thinning were done. First thinning was done after 11 days and 2nd thinning was done after 21 days of seed emergence keeping one seedling per stand. The nutrient elements such as Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K), Sulpher (S) , Boron (B), and Magnesium (MgS0₄) were applied in the row at the rate of 6.45-16-11-5-0.92 and 5.4 kg/ha respectively as basal dose. At the 1st side dressing the nutrient elements such as Nitrogen (N), Potassium (K) and Zn were applied at the rate of 9.6-15 and 1.94 kg/ha at the seedling age of 25 DAE one side of the cotton row. After 42 days of DAE the second side dressing was applied at the rate of 24. 19-12.00-27.5-5.76-1.22 kg/ha Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K), Sulpher (S) and Boron (B) respectively just opposite side of the 1st side dressing. When the plants appeared at 62 days, third side dressing was done at the rate of 24.19-12.00-33.00-5.03-0.925 kg/ha of Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K), Sulpher (S) and, Boron (B) respectively opposite side of the 2nd side dressing. The last or fourth side dressing was done at the plant age of 75 days at the rate of Nitrogen 16.13 kg and potassium (K) 22 kg /ha respectively. Recommended cultural and intercultural operations were done just in time. Data were collected on days to first flowering, days to first boll split, plant height, number of bolls per plant, single boll weight, seed cotton yield per plot and plant population at harvest. The collected data were analyzed through MSTAT-C program.

Achievement/Findings:

The treatment JA/08/E was high yielder, has wide adaptability, high yield potentiality, high GOT% and have earliness to some extent. So it may be released as a variety. The treatment SR-01 may be forwarded to observation trial for it's second highest yield and for the 2nd highest lint production.
