An experiment was carried out in plant pathology laboratory, BARI to get some antagonistic bacterial isolate against foot rot disease causing pathogen, Sclerotium rolfsii of lentil. Among 98 bacteria, were isolated through soil dilution on King’s B (KB) medium, seven showed antagonism and developed up to 0-30 mm inhibition zone.

The study has  been conducted to collect antagonistic isolates against S. rolfsii.

Bacterial isolates were collected from soil by soil dilution plate. In this experiment, KB media will be used. For isolation of bacteria, single colony method will be practiced. Antagonism of bacterial isolates against fungal pathogen were observed by dual plate culture technique on a mixed (½ KB plus ½ PDA) agar medium.

From five collected soil sample, 98 bacterial isolate were isolated through soil dilution plate method. Among 98 isolates, only seven isolate showed antagonism against foot rot causing pathogen S. rolfsii  of lentil. LG12 isolates showed highest and LG21 showed second highest 30 and 22 mm  inhibition zone, respectively against S. rolfsii.

Performance of seven antagonistic isolates will be evaluated in pot and field against S. rolfsii. This program will be continued to isolate more effective and highly antagonist isolate against different pathogen of the crop.
