Annual research Report, Plant Pathology Division, BARI--2014-15
Pumpkin germplasm reactions against CMV were graded as resistant, moderately resistant, susceptible and highly susceptible. Among the forty accessions, eleven accessions namely BD4357, BD4359, BD4360, BD4364, BD4370, BD4378, BD4382, BD4391, BD9872, BD9877 and BD10297 were graded as highly susceptible where disease score ranged from >4 to 5. Fifteen accessions namely BD4349, BD4350, BD4353, BD4354, BD4368, BD4372, BD4381, BD4383, BD4395, BD9871, BD9875, BD9879, BD9880, BD10295 and BD10295 were graded as susceptible having disease score >3 to 4. Six accessions namely BD4348, BD4358, BD4371, BD4380, BD4393, BD4397 and BD9889 were graded as moderately susceptible where disease score from >2 to 3. Four accessions i.e. BD4351, BD4352, BD4363 and BD9870 were graded as moderately resistant and disease score was >1 to 2. Only three accessions namely BD4355, BD4361 and BD10303 were found to be resistant against CMV under artificial inoculation. Results of the present investigation prove that natural resistance exists in tested pumpkin germplasm against CMV. However, three accessions were found to be the best against CMV under artificial inoculation.
The accessions BD4355, BD4361 and BD10303 may possess resistant to CMV which may be selected as promising resistant lines. However, small number of symptom less plants was observed among the accessions after inoculation. So, further screening for resistant to CMV is necessary for final conclusion.
