An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during July-December, 2011 to study the yield performance of transplant aman rice cv. BRRI dhan51 under integrated nitrogen management. The experiment included three levels of cowdung such as 0, 5 and 10 t ha-1 and six levels of nitrogenous fertilizers namely no nitrogenous fertilizer, 125kg prilled urea ha-1, 50 kg Urea Super Granule (USG) ha-1, 75 kg USG ha-1, 100 kg USG ha-1 and 125 kg USG ha-1. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The yield and yield contributing characters of transplant aman rice cv. BRRI dhan51 showed significant variation due to cowdung application. The highest grain yield (5.21 t ha-1) was obtained from 10 t ha-1 cowdung and the lowest (4.20 t ha-1) from the control treatment (no cowdung application). Levels of nitrogenous fertilizers exerted significant influence on yield and yield contributing characters of transplant aman rice cv. BRRI dhan51. Application of USG @ 125 kg ha-1 produced the highest number of effective tillers hill-1 (12.50), longest panicle (23.60 cm), highest number of grains panicle-1 (145.66) and highest 1000- grain weight (20.34 g) which eventually contributed to the highest grain yield (5.26 t ha-1) in this treatment. This grain yield was statistically similar with that of application of 125 kg PU ha-1 but superior to that of any other level of nitrogen management. The interaction effect of cowdung and level of nitrogenous fertilizers on yield and yield contributing characters of transplant aman rice cv. BRRI dhan51 were also significant. The highest grain yield (5.70 t ha-1) was obtained from the application of 10 t cowdung ha-1 in combination with 125 kg USG ha-1 , which was statistically identical with 5 t cowdung ha-1 × 125 kg USG ha-1 and 10 t cowdung ha-1 × 125 kg PU ha-1. So, the result suggests that application of cowdung 5 t ha-1 in combination with USG @ 125 kg ha-1 could be used for maximum yield of transplant aman rice cv. BRRI dhan51.

To study the yield performance of transplant aman rice cv. BRRI dhan51 under integrated nitrogen management.

The experiment was carried out at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh AgriculturalUniversity, Mymensingh during July to December 2011 to study the yield performance of transplant aman rice cv. BRRI dhan51 under integrated nitrogen management. The experiments included two sets of treatments viz. three levels of cowdung: control (no cowdung; C0), 5t ha-1 (C1) and 10 t ha-1 (C2), and six levels of nitrogenous fertilizers: no nitrogenous fertilizers (No), 125 kg PU ha-1 (N1), 50 kg USG ha-1 (N2), 75 kg USG ha-1 (N3), 100 kg USG ha-1 (N4), and 125 kg USG ha-1 (N5). The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCDB) with three replications. Seeds of aman rice cv. BRRI dhan51 were collected from Bangladesh Rice Research Institute. Healthy seeds were used for sprouting. Seeds were immersed in water in bucket for 24 hours and then taken out of water and packed in the gunny bags for sprouting. The seeds sprouted after 72 hours. For raising seedlings the sprouted seeds were sown in well prepared wet nursery bed on 7 July 2011. Proper care was taken to raise seedling in the nursery bed. Weeds were removed and irrigation was given in the nursery for as and when necessary. Well decomposed cowdung was applied @ 0, 5, 10 t ha-1 as per treatments one week before the final land preparation. During final land preparation each unit plot was fertilized with TSP, MoP, gypsum and ZnSO4 at the rate of 80 kg ha-1, 70 kg ha-1, 60 kg ha-1 and 10 kg ha-1, respectively. Nitrogenous fertilizers were applied as per treatment specification. PU was applied in three equal splits. The first split of pilled urea was top dressed at 15 days after transplanting (DAT) and the second and third splits of pilled urea were top dressed at 35 and 50 DAT, respectively. USG was placed at 8 cm depth in the center of four hills in alternate rows at 10 DAT. Seedlings of 30-day old were uprooted carefully from the nursery bed without causing any injury to the roots and the uprooted seedlings were kept on soft mud under shade. Seedlings were transplanted on 7th August 2011 in the main field with 3 seedlings per hill spaced at 15 cm × 25 cm. Intercultural operations were done at proper time for proper growth and development. Harvesting was done when 90% of the grains become golden yellow in colour. Prior to harvest five hills were collected randomly (except border hills) from each unit plot to record data on yield contributing characters. The remaining crop from the whole plot was harvested separately and tagged properly to record the data on yields. After harvesting the crop was bundled, tagged and then brought to threshing floor. After threshing the grains were cleaned and sun dried to maintain moisture content around 14%. Straws were also dried properly and then grain and straw yields were recorded plot wise. The collected data were analyzed statistically following the analysis of variance (ANOVA) technique and mean differences were adjudged by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) using a computer package program namely MSTAT.

It may be concluded that combined application of cowdung @ 10 t ha-1 either with USG @ 125 kg ha-1 or PU at the same level or cowdung @ 5 t ha-1 with USG 125 kg ha-1 gave statistically similar grain yields. Therefore, it could be suggested from the study that the combination of cowdund @ 5 t ha-1 plus USG @ 125 kg ha-1 might be the best combination for the maximum grain yield of transplant aman rice cv. BRRI dhan51.
