Efficacy of Different New Fungicides on Alternaria Leaf Spot of Broccoli

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted during 2013-2014 cropping season to study the efficacy of eight fungicides and one botanical oil such as mahogany oil for controlling Alternaria leaf spot of Broccoli in the plant pathology field of RARS Jessore. Ridomil Gold 440SC reduced the number of alternaria leaf spots (179.3) and increased plant weight (533g/plant) as well as yield (4.32kg/plo) of broccoli compare to control.

Objectives:

This experiment was under taken to study the efficacy of nine fungicides along with one botanicals against alternaria leaf spot of Broccoli

Methodology:

This experiment was conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Jessore during rabi 2013-14. The experiment was laid out in a RCB design with three replications. Unit plot size 3m x 3m with 1 m plot to plot distance and 1.5m replication to replication distance. The date of transplanting was 31 th December of 2013. There were 10 treatments including control such as T₁= Bavistin (2gm/l), T₂= Rovral (2gm/l), T₃= Iprozim (1gm/l), T₄= Secure 600(2gm/l), T₅= Ridomil Gold 440SC (1gm/l), T₆= Deconil 50 EC (1.5ml/l), T₇= Amistar Top (1ml/L), T₈= Dithane M-45 (2gm/l), T₉= Mahogany oil (5ml/l) and T₁₀= Control. Three spray at 10 days interval were done after first appearance of the disease symptom. Number of spots was counted from ten leaves of each plot. Data on yield contributing characters such as plant height (cm) /plant/plot, number of leaves/plant/, weight of whole plants/plot, yield/plot in kg and marketable card weight/plant/.

Achievement/Findings:

The effect of nine chemical fungicides and mehogoni oil on Alternatria leaf spot disease were studied. These treatments did not affect significantly on plant height and no. of leaves of broccoli. T₉ performed the lowest number of spots/10 plots (336.7) and followed by T₄ (177.3) and T₅(179.3), whereas T₁₀ treated plots recorded the highest number of spots (214.3). However, T₃ gave the highest weight of plants/plot (545.3gm) and except T₄ an T₉ all other treatments were statistically similar with T₃. The highest yield/plot was performed by T₅ (4.32 kg) and it showed statistically similar result with T₂ (4.15kg). Control plots with T₆ treatments recorded the lowest yield/plot (2.11 kg). In case of marketable card weight/plant, it was highest in T₅ (226.7 gm), and it was followed by T₂ (220.0gm) and T₈ (202.0 gm) treated plots.

Ridomil Gold 440SC effectively reduced the number of Alternaria leaf spots and increased plant height as well as yield of broccoli. Mahogany seed oil on the other hand was less effective.
