Adaptive Trlal with Advanced Wheat Lines at Mlt Sites

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An adaptive trial was conducted at MLT site Shibpur, Puthia, Rajshahi during 2011-12 with three advance lilies BAW 1130, BAW 1138 and BAW 1140 along with check variety Shatabdi were evaluated at two farmers field under optimum seeding conditions. The genotypes were evaluated for yield, and yield components, heading, plant height, yield and visual grain quality, etc with the close supervision of Seed Certificate Agency (SCA) with the concern scientists of RWRC, Rajshahi. The maximum average yield over two locations among the tested genotypes was produced by BAW 1138 (5.49 t ha^-1} followed by BAW 1140 (5.31 t ha^-1) and check variety Shatabdi (5.32 t ha^-1) respectively. These genotypes produced satisfactory yields in both sites. All the advance lines are 7- 9 days earlier than Check Shatabdi.

Objectives:

To evaluate yield and different distinct characters by evaluation committee of National Seed Board (NSB) for recommendation to approve as variety.

Methodology:

The adaptive trial was conducted with promising lines BAW 1130, BAW 1138 and Baw 1140 with Shatabdi as a check variety at two farmers field at Pali, Durgapur and Kalabipara, Charghat under MLT site, Shibpur, Puthia, Rajshahi. These advanced lines were selected from candidate variety demonstration 2010-11. The trial was laid out in RCB design with two replications in each farmers' fields. Unit plot size was 5m x4m. Recommended cultural package of practices were followed to raise the crop under irrigated condition. Fertilizers were applied @ N₁₀₀ P₂₆ K50 S₂₀ B₁ Kg ha^-1. One third of urea applied as top dress at 1st irrigation during CRr stage (17-21DAS). Affinity was used to control weed three days after 1^st irrigation. The seeds were sown during November 24 (at Kalabipara, Charghat) and November 27, 2011 (at Pali, Durgapur). Data was recorded on different agronomic characters, diseases, sterility, 1000-grain weight and visual seed characteristics. At maturity stage crop cut was done in presence of Committee members of National Seed Board and grain yield was estimated from 10m² samples from each plot. Then the harvested grain yield was expressed as ton per hectare. The collected data were analyzed and means were compared by LSD.

Considering the yield performance and days to heading the advanced lines BAW 1138 and BAW 1140 has been recommended for submission in variety selection committee in National Seed Board.
