An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during July to December 2005 in order to examine the effect of combined level of poultry manure and inorganic fertilizer on two varieties of transplant Aman rice viz.(i)BRRI dhan31 and(ii) BRRI dhan32.The combined level of poultry manure and inorganic fertilizer treatments were (i) control (no poultry manure and inorganic fertilizers) (Mo); (ii) poultry manure at 5 t ha-1 M1 (iii) 100% N P K SZn i.e. recommended dose of fertilizers (80,60,40,60, 10 kg N, P2O5, K2O, gypsum and ZnSO4 ha-1, respectively) (M2); (iv) 50% N P K S Zn + poultry manure 2.5 t ha-l (M3); (v) 50% N P K S Zn + poultry manure 5 t ha-1 (M4); (vi) 75% NPKSZn + poultry manure 2.5 t ha-1 (M5); (vii) 75% N P K S Zn + poultry manure 5 t ha-1 (M6). The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The performance ol BRRI dhan31 was better regarding grains panicle-1 (149.17), grain yield (4.36 t ha-1), 1000-grain weight (23.589) and harvest index (18%) than that of BRRI dhan32. But both the variety (BRRI dhan31 and BRRI dhan32) performed the best in respect of yield and yield parameters in 5 t ha-1 of poultry manure coupled with 75% N p K S Zn. Thus transplant Aman rice (variety BRRI dhan31 and BRRI dhan32) can be cultivated successfully with 25% reduction ol recommended fertilizers when poultry manure will be applied at 5 t ha-1.

To examine the effect of combined level of poultry manure and inorganic fertilizer on two varieties of transplant Aman rice.

The experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during July to December 2005. The experiment comprised two factors: Factor A: two varieties of transplant Aman rice viz. BRRI dhan31 (V1) and (ii) BRRI dhan32 (V2); and Factor B: seven levels of poultry manure and inorganic fertilizers viz. (i) control (no poultry manure and inorganic fertilizers) (Mo); (ii) poultry manure at 5 t ha-1 M1 (iii) 100% N P K S Zn i.e. recommended dose of fertilizers (80,60,40,60, 10 kg N, P2O5, K2O, gypsum and ZnSO4 ha-1, respectively) (M2); (iv) 50% N P K S Zn + poultry manure 2.5 t ha-l (M3); (v) 50% N P K S Zn + poultry manure 5 t ha-1 (M4); (vi) 75% NPKSZn + poultry manure 2.5 t ha-1 (M5); (vii) 75% N P K S Zn + poultry manure 5 t ha-1 (M6). The experimental plot was first opened with a power tiller. The land was then puddled thoroughly by ploughing and moss ploughing with country plough and subsequently leveled by laddering. Weeds and stubble of the previous crop were collected and removed from the field. lt was puddled and leveled finally on 4 August 2005. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Each block was divided into fourteen unit plots of 4.0 m x 2.5 m size. Thus, the total number of plot was 42. The distance maintained between two unit plots was 50 cm and between blocks, 1.0m. The bounds around individual plots were made fine enough to control water movement between plots. The treatments were allocated randomly in each block. lntercultural operations were done for ensuring and maintaining the normal growth and development of the crop. Weeding was done twice. The first weeding was done at 30 days after transplanting (DAT). Thereafter, second split of urea was top dressed on the same day. The second weeding was done at 60 DAT and the third split of urea was top dressed on the same day. The recorded data were analyzed using "Analysis of variance" and mean differences were adjudged with Duncan's New Multiple Range Test.

Thus transplant Aman rice (variety BRRI dhan31 and BRRI dhan32) can be cultivated successfully with 25% reduction of recommended fertilizers when poultry manure will be applied at 5 t ha-1.
