Effect of Shading on off season capsicum variety for production through hydroponics culture was conducted at the glass house of Olericulture Division, Horticulture Research Centre, BARI, Joydebpur ,Gazipur, during April 2013 to August 2013. The plant height was higher in T1 (45) treatment followed by T3 (41) T4 (38) and lowest in T2 (35).The days to 50% flowering was earlier in T2 (40) and late in T4 (52) treatment. The days to first was earlier in T2 (65 days) followed by T3 (68), T1 (71) days and late in T4 (77 days). The number of fruits per plants was higher in T2 (22) and lower in T4 (10) treatment. The fruit size was large in T1 treatment (6.9x6.0)  followed by T2 (5.9x5.2cm) and small in T4 treatment (4.5x4.2 cm).The individual fruit weight was higher in T2 treatment (85g) followed by T3 (80g) and T1 (75g) and lowest in T4 (70) treatments. The yield per plant of capsicum was high in T2 (1.8kg) treatment and followed by T3 (1.4kg) and T1 (1.1kg) and lowest yield was found in T4 (0.7Kg).

To find out shading effect on capsicum for off season production in hydroponics culture.

The experiment was carried out at the glass house of Olericulture Division, Horticulture Research Centre, BARI, Joydebpur, Gazipur, during June 2013 to November 2013.  The study was set up in CRD design with four treatment and three replication . BARI Capsicum -1 was used as verity. The treatments were T1= 0% shade, T2 = 30%, shade T3= 40% shade and T4=60% shade. Different thickness black nylon net was used to making shade. Water non Circulating methods were used. The seedlings were grown in sponge block. The sponge were cut into 2.5 cm cube size, in the middle of the cube the seeds were sown after that foam were placed in a tray (60x80x25cm) containing 30L fresh water. A news paper was placed over the Styrofoam to control the evaporation of water. After germination the newspaper was removed. At two to three true leaf stages 10 to 20 cc nutrient solutions were added at an interval of 2 to 3 days. After 3 to 4 weeks the seedlings were transplanted in individual plastic Buckets. Each bucket contain 10 liter of water and 100ml of each nutrient solution ‘A’ and’ B’ adding in the bucket. The composition of nutrient solution to prepare 1000 liters solution: Potassium hydrogen phosphate 263.00g; Potassium Nitrate=583.00g; Calcium Nitrate=100.00g; Magnesium sulphate=515.00g; EDTA iron=79.00g; Manganese sulphate=6.10g; Boric acid=1.70g; Copper sulphate=0.39g; Ammonium molybdate:0.37g; Zinc sulphate=0.44g.Seedling of cucumber were transplanted on July, 10, 2013 and harvested up to November, 2013.The intercultural operations such support the plant with nylon tape ,solution and acid adding etc. were done as and when necessary. The EC and pH were maintained 2.0 ds/m and 6.5 respectively. Data on Ec, PH, solution regularly and adjust EC and pH every days, temperature, yield and yield contributing parameters were recorded and statistically analyzed.

The highest yield obtain from 30% shading (1.8kg fruit/plant) and followed by 40% shading (1.4kg/plant) and 0% shading (1.1kg) and lower in 60% shading 0.70kg fruit/plant. The plant height was higher in 0% shade and followed by 30% shade (41cm) and lower in 60% shading (38cm). The benefit cost return was higher in 30% shading (1:7.6) in 60% shading it was  (1:1.8). So, it can be concluded that the 30% shading is profitable than 0%, 40%, and 60% shading.From the study it found that the shading has produce effect on capsicum production in hydroponic culture. The maximum yield was obtain from 30% (1.8 kg) and lower in 60% shading (0.7kg). So capsicum can be grown in 30% shading during off-season. The experiment may be repeated for the next season for confirmation of the result.
