Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Forty-nine elite genotypes of Spring Wheat Yield Trial selected for mega-environment and received through CSISA project of CIMMYT, Mexico were evaluated at the Wheat Research Centre (WRC), Dinajpur in alpha-lattice design. The genotypes were evaluated for yield, heading, plant height, Bipolaris leaf blight and spike sterility tolerance, leaf rust resistance, physical grain characteristics etc. Entry 103, 105, 108, 129, 140, 147 and 148 had statistically similar yield to Shatabdi and considering in all respect selected for further evaluation

Objectives:

To evaluate the advanced wheat lines comparing with local check variety and to select the promising ones for Bangladesh context

Methodology:

The trial was conducted with 50 genotypes including local check Shatabdi at the Wheat Research Centre (WRC), Dinajpur during 2013-14 in alpha-lattice design with five sub-blocks and two replications. The seeds of each entry were sown on 24 November 2013 in 5m long 6 rows with row spacing of 20 cm. Recommended management practices were followed for normal growth and development of the crop. The data were recorded on days to heading and maturity, plant height, spikes m^-2, grains spike^-1, 1000-grain weight, grain yield, biomass, harvest index, agronomic score, canopy temperature at vegetative (50, 55 and 60 DAS ) and reproductive (80, 85 and 90 DAS) stages. Mean canopy temperature data of six reading were used in this report. Five meter middle four rows were harvested to record grain yield and biomass and then converted into kg/hectare important parameters were analyzed using Alpha-lattice program.

Achievement/Findings:

The genotypes showed a wide range of variation for yield and other characters studied in this trial. Yield, heading, plant height, physical grain characteristics etc. were the most important selection criteria, so these were given first priority during selection. Performance of selected entries indicated that the highest yield was recorded in E-129 (5908 kg ha^-1) followed by E-140 and E-105. The lowest yield was achieved in E-148. Plant height of all the selected entries was lower to Shatabdi. The 1000-grain weights of all the selected entries except E-129 were lower than Shatabdi but their filling was good. Agronomic scores of all the selected were higher or equal to Shatabdi. Based on overall performance seven entries (viz.: E-103, E-105, E-108, E-129, E-140, E-147 and E-148) were finally selected for further evaluation in heat tolerant wheat yield trial in next year.
