Observations Trial with Clonal Hybrids for Early Planting

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Observation yield trial was conducted at BSPC, Debigonj during rabi season 2013-2014. Seventeen (17) hybrid potato clones were evaluated. Hybrid potato clone 10.35 produced highest number of tuber per plant (18.73). Highest tuber weight per plant was recorded in 10.59 (0.79 kg). Highest yield (42.13 t/ha) was found in the hybrid clone 10.155 and lowest in 10.92 (26.30 t/ha). In case of dry matter, highest dry matter was found in 10.245 (22.08%) and lowest in 11.94 (13.62%).

Objectives:

To develop early heat tolerant and short duration variety

Methodology:

In BSPC, Debigonj all 17 hybrid potato clones were planted on 10 October 2013 in a single line of 3m long and seed to seed 25 cm apart. Granola was used as check variety. Fertilizers were applied 325-320-250-120 kg/ha of urea, TSP, MP and gypsum, respectively. Necessary intercultural operations were done as per TCRC recommendation. The crop was harvested at 90 OAP. Data were recorded on plant emergence, plant height, number of stem/plant, number of tuber/plant, weight of tuber/plant and tuber yield (t/ha). Data were calculated using Microsoft excel program. Superior genotypes marked at vegetative stage and final selection was made after harvest on the basis of yield production (t/ha).

Achievement/Findings:

Among the tested genotypes highest emergence observed in 11.8 and 10.245 (100%) 30 DAP and lowest in 11.94 (58.33). Highest plant height was observed in hybrid clone 11.8 (96:87 cm) and lowest in 11.99 (61.33 cm). Hybrid clone 11.93 and (10.35) produced more (above 6) than the other clones in this study. 10.35 produced highest tuber (18.73) per plant and lowest in check variety Granola (8.55). The highest tuber weight per plant was found in 10.59 (7.96 kg) lowest in the check variety Granola (0.45 kg). Highest tuber yield (42.13 t/ha) was recorded from the hybrid clone 10.155 and lowest in 10.92 (26.30 t/ha). The clones which were statistical similar yielder with the higher yielder could by selected for further evaluation in the next year.
