Use of Tricho-products for Soil Borne Disease Management in Cabbage Production

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was in seed bed nursery and main field with cabbage (variety Atlas 70) at HRC, BARI, Gazipur to control soil borne pathogen by using Tricho-products. Application of cowdung 5 t/ha +Tricho-compost @ 1.5 t/ha+ Tricho-spore @ 100 ml/ m²increased fresh and dry weight and reduced mortality of seedling. Dry weight was increased by 20.98% due to Tricho-products application. Number of seedling was higher in Tricho-products used plots. Seedling mortality was reduced by 64.95% in Tricho-products amended soil. In main field experiment, Fusarium wilt was reduced by 78.99 % and 68.40 % in Tricho-compost soil + talc base Trichoderma foliar spray plots and talc base Trichoderma soil + foliar spray plots, respectively. Both of the treatment increased single head weight and marketable yield. Yield was increased by 25.91 % in talc base Trichoderma soil + foliar spray plots and 25.73% in Tricho-compost soil + talc base Trichoderma foliar spray plots. Benefit cost ratio was the highest in talc base Trichoderma soil + foliar spray plot (4.33) followed by Tricho-compost soil + talc base Trichoderma foliar spray plot (4.15), only talc base Trichoderma soil applied plot (3.91) and un-amended control plot (3.59).

Objectives:

To find out effectiveness of talc base Trichoderma for soil borne disease management of cabbage in the field.

Methodology:

Seedlings of cabbage “Atlas 70” was grown in seed bed nursery, HRC, BARI, Gazipur during October, 2013. Two treatments were applied- T₁= Cowdung 5t/ha + Tricho-compost @1.5 t/ha + Tricho-leachate @ 500 ml/m² and T₀= Cowdung @ 20 t/ha + TSP @ 100 kg/ha (control) in seed bed nursery. Three replications were maintained. Data on growth characteristics of seedlings was taken for 50 seedlings at 25 days of plant growth; seedling mortality, fresh and dry weight were recorded. Four treatments such as T₁= Chemical fertilizer (N180P70K120S20Zn4B2Mo1) + soil application of talc base Trichoderma 50 kg/ ha; T₂= Chemical fertilizer + soil application of talc base Trichoderma 50 kg/ ha + foliar spray of talc base Tricho-leachate; T₃=¾ Chemical fertilizer + Tricho-compost @ 2.5 t/ha + foliar spray of talc base Tricho-leachate and T₀= only chemical fertilizer were used in the experimental field. Treatments were arranged in randomized complete block design with three replications. Tricho-compost and talc base Trichoderma were applied in soil before one week and at the day of seedling transplanting, respectively. Foliar spray on cabbage was performed at 15 days interval starting from seedling establishment. One month old seedling was transplanting in field. Seedling wilting due to Fusarium spp. after transplanting was recorded. Total bio-mass, marketable yield and BCR were calculated.

Achievement/Findings:

Both Tricho-compost + ¾ chemical fertilizer and talc base Trichoderma + recommended dose of fertilizer reduced disease incidence and increased yield of cabbage. However, to confirm the result the experiment will be repeated.
