Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Twenty-four durum lines along with BDW-8 as check were evaluated at Wheat Research Centre, Dinajpur in rabi 2013-14. Significant variations were observed among the entries for days to heading, days to maturity, plant height, grains per spike, 1000-grain weight and yield. Only the entries E-8, E-12 and E-17 yielded more than the check BDW-8. Only the entries E-8, E-12 and E-17 yielded more than the check BDW-8. The highest grain yield was obtained from the entry E-17 (5182 kg/ha) followed by E-8 (4860 kg/ha). Thousand-grain weight of most of the durum entries were more than that of BDW-8. Grains of most of the durum lines were with yellow berry marking. On the basis of field performance, disease reaction, grain physical characteristics, and yield, only seven promising durum entries viz. E-8, E-12, E-14, E-16, E-17, E-19 and E-24 were selected for further evaluation over environments.

Objectives:

The main objective of this trial was to select promising high yielding, early maturing and disease tolerant durum lines.

Methodology:

Twenty-four durum lines selected from Durum Yield Nursery (2012-13) and International Durum Screening Nursery (2012-13) along with a check, BDW-8 were included in this nursery. Each entry was sown in six rows of 5m long plot with 20 cm row spacing in RCB design with two replications on November 26, 2013 at Wheat Research Centre (WRC), Nashipur, Dinajpur. The nursery was fertilized with NPK and S @ 100, 60, 40 and 20 kg/ha, respectively. Two-thirds of the urea and the entire quantity of triple super phosphate, muriate of potash and gypsum were applied at final land preparation. Recommended package of practices for wheat were followed to raise the crop under irrigated timely sown condition. First irrigation was given at crown root initiation (CRI) stage followed by a top dress with one-third of the recommended urea. Second and third irrigation were given at late booting and early grain filling stages, respectively. Data were recorded on different agronomic characters and diseases.
