The experiment was conducted in the research field of Wheat research centre, BARI, Nashipur, Dinapur for identifying wheat genotypes which were able to produce considerable yield under water stress condition. Considering this burning issue, 30 selected wheat genotypes with three water regimes were arranged in split plot design with three replications, where three water regimes {i.e., fully water stress condition (no irrigation up to harvest), one irrigation (only applied at CRI stage) and control (three irrigation- one at CRI stage, second at booting stage and third at grain filling stage)} were arranged under main plots and 30 genotypes in sub-plots.  Results of grain yield under fully water deficit condition, E-38 performed better among the 30 genotypes, followed by E-28, BARI Gom-25, E-3, BAW 1170, BAW 1161, and E-34. On the basis of lowest yield reduction BARI Gom-25. Highest yield was obtained from E-38 which was followed by  E-28, BAW 1170 and E-3. When applied only one irrigation at CRI stage, genotype E-2 showed the highest grain yield among 30; BAW 1135 and BAW 1171 were the second and third most performing genotypes.  Considering on yield reduction in the plot of one irrigated  as compared with control (three irrigation), E-18 showed the lowest reduction, followed by BAW 1135.

To determine suitable genotypes for drought prone areas and to observe the genotypic variation under water stress condition.  

The experiment was conducted in the rabi season of 2013-14 in research field of Wheat Research Centre, Dinajpur. In the experiment, 30 selected wheat genotypes with three water regimes were arranged in split plot design with three replications, for identifying wheat genotypes which were able to produce considerable yield under water stress condition, where three water regimes {i.e., fully water deficit condition (no irrigation up to harvest), one irrigation (only applied at CRI stage) and control (three irrigation- one at CRI stage, second at booting stage and third at grain filling stage)} were arranged under main plots and 30 genotypes in sub-plots. The experiment was laid out in split plot design with three replications. Seed rate for all genotypes were 120 kg ha-1. WRC recommended fertilizers i.e., N-P-K-S-B-Zn @ 100-27-50-20-4.5-1. All of TSP, MoP, gypsum, boric acid, zinc sulphate and two-third of urea were used as basal during final land preparation but in case of no irrigation treatment all fertilizers were applied as basal dose. Rest urea was applied as top-dress at 18 days after sowing (DAS) followed by first irrigation in the treatment of one irrigation and three irrigation plot. Provax-200 treated seeds were sown in lines 20 cm apart on 27 November 2013 according to treatments. Furadan 5G was broadcasted @ 10 kg ha-1 for controlling soil borne insect. Mulching was done at 26 DAS. A hand weeding was done at 42 DAS. Yield and yield contributing characters were recorded after harvesting the crop. Crop was harvested at full maturity as par treatments. The grain yield and 1000-grain weight was adjusted to 12% moisture. Data were analyzed statistically and the means were compared by the LSD at 1 % level of significance.

 From the results of the study indicated that genotype E-38 had capability to grow under water deficit condition and was able to produce considerable grain yield among the selected 30 genotypes followed by E-28, BARI Gom-25, E-3, BAW-1170, BAW-1161 and E-34. On the other hand, BARI Gom-26 was the susceptible against water deficit followed BAW 1168, E-30 and BAW 1130. On the basis of the lowest yield reduction BARI Gom-25 was the highest followed by E-38, E-28, BAW 1170, E-3 and BAW 1171. When only one irrigation was applied at CRI stage and other stages were kept under water stress, the genotype E-2 showed the highest grain yield. However, BAW 1135 and BAW 1171 were the second and third most performing genotypes. Considering on yield reduction in one irrigated genotypes as compared with control (three irrigation), E-18 showed the lowest reduction followed by BAW 1135. In case of three irrigation, BARI Gom-28 gave the highest yield followed by E-2, Shatabdi, BAW 1130, BAW 1161, E-3. The lowest yield was got by the genotype. Water stress adversely affects plant establishment and thereafter growth and development. Water is the most important element for the process of photosynthesis. In context of Bangladesh, for the growing of spring wheat, the irrigation is very much essential in the stages of crown root initiation (CRI), late booting stage and grain filling. Application of irrigation at CRI stage influences the more tiller initiation and the sound growth and development of wheat. In the study, the highest yield was attained by E-38 genotypes followed by E-28, BARI Gom-25, E-3, BAW-1170, BAW-1161 and E-3 in case of no irrigation. It meant that these genotypes had the most capability to grow under water stress condition.
