A field experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, Aman season, 2006 to find out the influence of mustard oil cake (MOC) on the performance fine rice Chinigura. The MOC was applied @ 0,40, 80 and 120 kg ha-1 in three splits at basal  at 15 DAT and at 30 DAT. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Level of mustard oil cake significantly influenced the number of effective tillers hill-1, grains panicle-1, and grain and straw yields. The highest grain yield of 2.69 tha-1 was obtained when 80 kg MOC ha-1 was applied, which was identical with the treatment of 120 kg MOC ha-1. This could be due to the cumulative effect of higher number of effective tillers hill-1, and number of grains panicle-1. The lowest one (1.92 t ha-1) when no MOC was applied. On the other hand, application time of MOC significantly influenced all the characters except total tillers hill-1, effective tillers hill-1, and 1000-grain weight. The highest grain yield (2.50 t/ha) was recorded when MOC was applied at 15 DAT that was statistical identical with basal application. This could be due to the cumulative effect of highest number of effective tillers hill-1, and number of grain  panicle-1. The lowest one (2.33 t ha-1) was observed when MOC was applied at 30 DAT. Interaction between level of MOC and application time of MOC significantly influenced all the characters except panicle length, grains panicle-1, 1000 grain weight and harvest index. The highest grain yield of 2.94 tha-1 was obtained from the combination of 80 kg MOC ha-1 x 15 DAT. From the economic viewpoints, the highest net profit (Tk. 13612.17 ha-1)and the highest benefit cost ratio (1.34) were obtained when MOC was applied 80 kg MOC ha-1. Therefore,application of MoC @ 80 kg MOC ha-1 at 15 DAT appears to be the best package of Chinigura variety from both yield and economic view points.

To find out the influence of mustard oil cake on the performance fine rice Chinigura.

An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during the period from July to December 2006 to evaluate the influence of mustard oil cake on the performance fine rice Chinigura.  The experimental soil belongs to the Sonatala Series of the dark grey flood plain soil type under the old Brahmaputra Flood Plain Agro ecological zone (AEZ 9). The experimental land was characterized by non-calcareous -dark grey floodplain soils. The soil of the experimental field was more or less neutral in reaction with pH value 5-82, low in organic matter content  and general fertility level of the soil was also low. The experiment included four different levels of MOC viz., 0 kg ha-1,  40 kg ha-1, 80 kg ha-1, and 120 kg ha-1 and three different times of application of MOC viz., basal dose, 15 days after transplanting (DAT) and 30 DAT. Chinigura a local but very popular fine rice cultivar of Bangladesh, was used as planting material. The experiment was laid out in a randomized block design with three replications. The size of unit plot was 4.0 m x 2.5 m. Thirty days old seedlings of Chinigura  were transplanted 18 August 2006 at the rate of 3 seedlings hill-1 with 25 cm x 15 cm spacing. Each plot was fertilized with TSP, MOP, Gypsum and zinc sulphate @ 85, 60,50, and 8 kg ha-1, respectively during the time of final land preparation, and urea was applied as top dressing @ 150 kg ha-1 in three equal splits on 15, 30 and 35 DAT. Necessary intercultural operations were done in order to ensure and maintain the normal growth of the crop. When 90% of grain became golden yellow in color, ten hills (excluding border hills) were randomly selected from each unit plot for recording data on different crop characters and those on grain and straw yields were recorded from central 1 m2 area. Data were collected on several parameters like plant height, number of effective tillers hill-1 , number of non-effective tillers hill-1, number of grains panicle- 1, number of sterile spikelets panicle-1, 1000-grain weight, grain yield, straw yield and harvest index. The data were compiled and tabulated in proper form for statistical analysis. The recorded data on various plant characters were statistically analyzed to find out the significance of variance resulting from the  experimental treatments, Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) with the help of computer package program MSTAT-C, and mean differences were adjudged by Duncan Multiple Range Test. The cost of  individual head of expenditure, variable cost, gross return, net profit and benefit cost ratio were recorded and partial budget analysis was done.

Mustard oil cake has tremendous influence on the yield of fine rice cv. Chinigura. So, to obtain higher yield and higher BCR from Chinigura rice, 80 kg ha-1 of mustard oil cake should be incorporated into the soil at 15 DAT along with recommended NPKSZn fertilizers. However, further studies are necessary for general recommendation.
