An experiment was conducted at the research farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Dhaka during Aus season (March to July 2010) to observe the effect of transplanting dates on the yield and yield attributes of exotic hybrid rice varieties. The experiment comprised of three rice varieties (two hybrids-Heera2, Aloron and one inbred- BRRI dhan48) Four transplanting dates viz. 16th March, 31st March, 15th April and 30th April were also selected for this experiment. The results revealed that 16th March transplanting provided the highest grain yield (3.87 t ha-1) regardless of variety. BRRI dhan48 produced the highest grain yield (3.51 t ha-1) where as the hybrid varieties Heera2 (3.03 t ha-1) and Aloron (2.77 t ha-1) achieved lower grain yield due to higher spikelet sterility. BRRI dhan48 produced the highest grain yield (4.91 t ha-1) at 16th March transplanting.

Objective of the study was to observe the effect of transplanting dates on the yield and yield attributes of exotic hybrid rice varieties.

The experiment was conducted at the research farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Dhaka-1207 in aus season (March to July) 2010. Including two exotic hybrids (Heera2 and Aloron) and one local inbred (BRRI dhan48) rice varieties. Four transplanting dates (16th march, 31st March march, 15th April and 30th April) were also selected for the experiment. The experiment was laid out following Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications and keeping block to block and plot to plot distance 1m and 0.5m respectively. One seedling of twenty five days old was transplanted in each hill maintaining 25 cm x 15 cm spacing. During land preparation cowdung was applied @ 10 t ha-1. The experimental area was fertilized with Urea, Triple Super Phosphate (TSP), Muriate of Potash (MP), gypsum and zinc sulphate @ 160, 110, 110, 30 and 10 kg ha-1 respectively. All the fertilizers except urea were applied as basal doses. Urea was applied in three equal installments at 7, 25 and 40 days after transplanting. Standard cultural management and plant protection measures were taken as and when required. Ten hills were randomly selected from each plot excluding 1st and 2nd rows and data on yield contributing traits were collected. Yield data were collected from the middle 6 m2 area of each plot. The collected data were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the mean differences were compared by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at 5% level of significance.

Hybrid varieties Heera2 and Aloron is not suitable for aus season and for getting desire grain yield from inbred BRRI dhan48 in aus season it should be transplanted within 16th March to 15th April.
