Eighteen advanced lines along with two check varieties Shatabdi and BARI Gom 26 were evaluated at WRC, Dinajpur and RARS, Jessore in RCBD factorial design with three replications under irrigated optimum and irrigated late sown conditions.  The genotypes were evaluated for yield and yield components, heading, maturity, disease reaction, sterility, visual grain quality, etc. The highest yield was recorded in Dinajpur in ITS condition and that was lowest in same location in ILS condition. In both the condition Dinajpur produced the highest thousand grain weight (TGW) than Jessore location. The highest grain yield (5177 kg ha-1) was obtained from Entry no. 3 in  Dinajpur and   lowest also in same location in Entry 17. In all locations Shatabdi matured later than any other genotypes. Considering the overall performance, 6 genotypes Entry 6, Entry 8, Entry 10, Entry 13 Entry 14 and Entry 15 were finally selected for testing in AYT next year.

To evaluate the performance of the advance lines of wheat compared to the existing check varieties and to select the promising lines for inclusion in the Advance Yield Trial .

 

The trial was conducted with 16 promising lines selected from Bangladesh Wheat screening Nursery (BWSN) last year (2013-14). The varieties Shatabdi and BARI Gom 26 were used as checks. The experiment was laid out in RCBD factorial design with three replications at two locations (Dinajpur and  Jessore ). The trial in each location was planted under irrigated timely sown (ITS) and irrigated late sown (ILS) conditions. Seeds were sown continuously in 5 m long 6 rows plots with a row spacing of 20 cm. Recommended cultural practices were followed to raise the crop with irrigation.  Data were recorded on different agronomic characters, diseases, sterility, 1000-grain weight and visual seed characteristics. At maturity, the middle five-meter long four  rows were harvested to estimate yield. The double-digit scores were converted to percent diseased leaf area (% DLA) for BpLB disease. The collected data were analyzed using Cropstat.

The effect of seeding times revealed that all traits except days to maturity were significantly influenced by seeding time. Days to heading were earlier at optimum  sowing condition. The numbers of spikes m-2 were significantly higher at optimum sown condition and also  thousand grain weight (TGW) and grain yield were higher in ITS condition. The effect of location revealed that all traits were significantly influenced by the locations. Days to maturity were earlier at Jessore and that was late in Dinajpur. The number of spikes m-2 were significantly higher at Jessore than Dinajpur location. All the yield contributing characters and yield were higher in Dinajpur than Jessore. The average  yield was  higher recorded in Dinajpur than Jessore. Dinajpur was the best location compared to Jessore.  All the selected genotypes except entry 8 headed and matured earlier than the check variety Shatabdi. All the selected genotypes except entry 13 produced higher grain yield than check variety Shatabdi.  The highest yield (4032 kg ha-1) was recorded from entry 8  followed by entry 15 (4002 kg ha-1) and entry 6 (3879 kg ha-1). All the selected genotypes except entry 8 headed and matured earlier than the check variety Shatabdi. All the selected genotypes except entry 13 produced higher grain yield than check variety Shatabdi.  The highest yield (4032 kg ha-1) was recorded in entry 8  followed by entry 15 (4002 kg ha-1) and entry 6 (3879 kg ha-1).
