Participatory Ayt of Virus Resistant Cip Potato Germplasm

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An advance participatory varietal selection trial was conducted with 5 CIP virus resistant potato clones with 2 check variety Asterix and Diamant at 6 locations during 2013-14 for their suitability and yield potentiality. In the trial, no virus diseases were shown in ClP clones at all locations. PLRV and mosaic diseases were recorded from 2 checks varieties (Asterix & Diamant). Except Bogra, more than 90% emergence was found at 30 days after planting at all locations. At Bogra, it was ranged 70-81.48%. At all locations vigorous plant growth was recorded in all ClP clones. Other morphological characters like, plant height, canopy coverage and stem per hill were found significant. Yield (ton/ha) were varied significantly at all locations and mean ranged from 29.84-39.57. The highest yield was recorded in CIP- 13(39.57 t/ha) and it was lowest in check variety Diamant (29.84 t/ha). All other CIP clones produced more than 36.0 t/ha average tuber yield. Through participatory variety selection, based on tuber yield, shape, size, colour and taste 4 CIP Jones namely, (CIP 2 (CIP 391846.5); CIP 8 (CIP395195.7), CIP 10 (CIP 397029.21) and CIP 13 (CIP 397073.7) were selected for AYT in next cropping season.

Objectives:

To evaluate the CIP potato clones tolerant to virus diseases.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at the experimental fields of Bogra, Debiganj, Joydebpur, Jamalpur, Munshiganj and Jessore during 2013-14. Five CIP clones selected from virus degeneration trials (resistant to viruses) viz., CIP-l (CIP 390637.1), CIP-2 (CIP 391846.5), CIP-8 (CIP 395195.7), CIP-10 (ClP 397029.21), CIP-13 (ClP 397073.7) with 2 check variety Asterix and Diamant were used in this trial. The tuber was planted on 18.11.2013 to 3011.2013 in three replicated plots of 3m X 3m size. Plant spacing was 60 X 25 em. Fertilizers were applied @ 160-44-132-15 kg/ha of N, P, K and S, respectively. Full amount of P, K and Sand 50% of N were applied as basal and the remaining amount of urea was top dressed at 35 days after planting. Weeding, fungicide spraying and other intercultural operations were done as and when necessary. The crops were haulm pulled at 90 DAP. Different growth and yield contributing characters data were recorded and statistically analyzed.
