Ipm Package for Cucumber Production

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Two selected cucumber lines including one commercial variety were evaluated with three IPM production package and a control at Olericulture Division of HRC, BARI, Gazipur during July to October 2011 for their yield, quality and virus resistance. Incase of effect of variety, the line CS 0080 obtained the highest no. of fruits/plant (11.8) and yield/ha (19.39t/ha). On the other hand, the highest no. of fruits/plant (10.27) and yield/ha (16.05 t/ha) was produced from M₁ (Trichocompost @ 3t/ha +1/2 chemical fertilizer) and M₂ (Poultry refuge @ 3t/ha +1/2 CD + ½ chemical fertilizer) treatments of IPM package respectively. In respect of combined effect, the treatment V₂ M₂ (CS 0080 with Poultry refuge @ 3t/ha+1/2 cowdung =1/2 chemical fertilizer) had the highest number of marketable fruit (12.8) per plant followed by V₂M₁ (11.47). Highest yield was obtained from V₂ M₂ (3.23 kg/plant and 21.51 t/ha.) followed by V₂ M₁ (2.89kg/plant and 19.24 t/ha) and V₂ M₃ (2.87 kg/plant and 19.11 t/ha). Among the treatment combinations all treatments showed less susceptible to virus diseases up to 45 DAS. Considering yield, fruit colour, shape, size , leaf eating caterpillar and white fly and virus infestation the treatments V₂ M₁, V₂ M₂, V₂ M₃, V₂ M₄, V₁M₁ and V₃M₄ showed better performance.

Objectives:

To find out a effective IPM package for production of healthy cucumber.

Methodology:

The study was conducted at the Central Station (Olericulture Division) of HRC at BARI, Joydebpur from July to October, 2011. Two selected cucumber lines including one commercial variety with three IPM production package and a control were put under RCB Factorial design with three replications. Seeds were sown on July 15, 2011 and 20 days old seedlings were transplanted in the field at spacing of 1.5 x 1.5 m. The unit plot size was 7.5 x 1.0 m. The plants were fertilized with three IPM package, (M₁ = Trichocompost @ 3t/ha + ½ CD + ½ chemical fertilizer, M₂ = Poultry refuge @ 3t/ha + ½ CD + ½ chemical fertilizer, M₃ = MOC @ 300kg/ha + ½ CD + ½ chemical fertilizer) and a control (20,000 kg cowdung, 175 kg Urea, 175 kg TSP, 150 kg MP, 100 kg Gypsum, 12 kg Zinc Oxide and 10 kg Borax/ha). Half amount of trichocompost, poultry refuge, MOC and cowdung were applied during land preparation. The remaining half of trichocompost, poultry refuge, MOC, cowdung, the entire amount of TSP, Gypsum, Zinc Oxide, Borax and 1/3 each of Urea and MP were applied during bed and pit preparation. Rest of Urea and MP were applied in 2 equal installments at 15 and 30 days after seedling transplantation. Trellis was used and irrigation, pruning and other cultural operations were done as and when required. Most of the data on flowering, fruit yield, fruit characteristics, insect-pest and diseases were recorded and the experiment is going on.

Achievement/Findings:

Considering yield, fruit colour, shape, size , leaf eating caterpillar and white fly and virus infestation the treatments V₂ M₁, V₂ M₂, V₂ M₃, V₂ M₄, V₁M₁ and V₃M₄ showed better performance. For confirmation and recommendation, the experiment may be repeated in the next year at different location.
