Advance Yield Trial of Hull Less Barley

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

In order to find a suitable genotypes of high yielding Barley,five barley entries including check viz. BB-6 were evaluated at three location Gazipur, Rahmatpur and Ishurdi during rabi season 2014-2015. Combined analysis was carried out for grain yield, days to heading, days to maturity, plant height, tiller per plant, spike length, grains per spike and thousand grain weight . At Gazipur, Entry- BHL-20 gave the highest yield (1.39 t/ha) and lowest yield was produced from Entry-BHL-24 (1.06 t/ha). At Rahmatpur entry-6-B-952482 was given highest yield (1.82 t/ha) and lowest yield was found in entry- BHL-20 (1.4 t/ha). At Ishurdi Entry- BHL-21 was given highest yield 2.99 t/ha lowest yield was found from entry- BHL-20 (2.4 t/ha). Considering overall mean grain yield across the locations Entry-BHL-21 produced highest yield 1.94 t/ha which followed by entry-6-B-952482 (1.88 t/ha). Entry-BHL-24 Produced lowest grain yield 1.73 t/ha.The entry BHL-21 showed lowest Days to Heading 63 days and entry- BHL-24 showed highest Days to heading 73 days across the location. The entry- BHL-21 is the earliest across location in respect of days to maturity (102 days) and the entry- BHL-20 is the late maturing (105 days). Lowest plant height was recorded from the Entry-6-B-952482 (100 cm) across location. Maximum no. of tiller per plant was recorded across location from entry- BHL-24 (12) and minimum no. of tillering from the entry- BHL-21(10). The entry- BHL-21 showed maximum spike length 10 cm. highest grain per spike was recorded from the Entry- BHL-21 (60).Across three locations entry- BHL-24 gave highest Thousand Grain Weight (TGW) 33gAnalysis of variance for different characters showed the presence of genetic variability among lines. From the overall mean yield and other desirable characters two entries viz. BHL-21 and 6-B-952482 were found suitable across the locations.

Objectives:

To evaluate the performance and to select desirable barley line(s)
To develope a high yielding Barley variety.

Methodology:

Five barley entries including check viz. BB-6 were evaluated at three location viz. Gazipur, Rahmatpur and Ishurdi during rabi season 2014-2015. The experiment was laid out in a RCB design with three replications. Seeds of each entry were sown in 4 m X 3 m plot maintaining 25 cm row spacing. Seeds were sown on 30^th November, 2014 in Gazipur, 25^th November, 2014 in Barisal and 22^nd November, 2014 in Ishurdi. Fertilizers were applied at the rate of 100:60:40 Kg/ha of N, P, K respectively. Standard agronomic practices were followed and plant protection measures were taken as and when necessary. Ten plants from each entry were selected randomly to compute data. Grain yield was recorded from the whole plot and converted into yield t/ha. Data were analyzed statistically by using the Plabstat software.

It was found that, the effect of different locations on different characters differed significantly. Ishurdi location was found to produce higher grain yield than Gazipur and Rahmatpur. The lowest days to heading and maturity was observed in Gazipur. The Lowest plant height was observed at Gazipur. Highest effective tiller per plant was recorded from Rahmatpur. Maximum Spike length was observed in Rahmatpur. At Gazipur the tested genotype showed maximum grains per spike.The tested genotypes showed maximum thousand grain weight (TGW) at Ishurdi location.
