International Barley Yield Trial Under High Inputs Environment

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The performance of 25 barley genotypes were investigated at the research field of plant breeding division of BARI, Gazipur, during rabi 2014-2015 to find out the suitable genotypes for large plot yield trial. The genotypes differed significantly for different traits except length of spikes (cm). It was observed that there was a wide range of variation among the entries under studied. Different yield contributing characters were significantly differs among the entries. However, the entry number 6 showed the highest yield 3.5 (t/ha) followed by the entry 7 (2.9 t/ha) and 17 (2.88 t/ha). Entry 11 performed best in case of 1000 grain weight (52 g) which was followed by entry 8 (52 g). In case of days to maturity both of entry 10 and 20 took minimum time 99 days. In case of plant height, entry 1 and 5 performed the shortest height (80 cm). Among the genotypes, entry 10 and entry 20 were registered for minimum days to maturity (99 days), one of the most desirable traits. Entry 6 (3.5 t/ha) exhibited as the highest yield followed by entry 7 (2.9 t/ha) and entry 17 (2.88 t/ha).

Objectives:

To study the yield potential of barley and to select a suitable genotype in high inputs environment

Methodology:

Twenty five barley entries including one check variety (BB-5) were evaluated at the research field of BARI, Gazipur during the rabi season 2014-2015. RCB design was used to establish the experiment. Each entry was sown in six rows of 2.5 m long with 2 replication maintaining 25 cm row spacing. N, P, K fertilizers were applied at the rate of 100:60:40 Kg/ha to grow the crop. Five plants from each entry were selected randomly to compute data. Data were analyzed statistically by using the CropStat 7.2 software
