International Naked Barley Yield Trial

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Performance of 25 barley genotypes were investigated at the research field of plant breeding division of BARI, Gazipur, during rabi 2014-2015 to find out the suitable genotypes for large plot yield trial. To identify suitable hull-less barley lines under Bangladesh condition. Different yield contributing characters significantly differed among the entries. The genotypes differed significantly for different traits except days to maturity and 1000-grain wt. However, the entry no. 5 showed the highest yield 3.05 (t/ha) followed by the entry 9 (2.75 t/ha) and 13 (2.75 t/ha). Entry 24 performed best in case of 1000-grain weight (41 g). In case of days to maturity entry 4 took minimum time (99 days) followed by entry 17 (100 days) and entry 6 (101 days). In case of plant height entry 3 performed the shortest height (58 cm) followed by entry 1 (59 cm) and entry 4 (61 cm). The highest plant height performed by entry no. 7 (109 cm). Among the genotypes, entry 4 was registered for minimum days to maturity (99 days), the trait was most desirable one. Entry 5 (3.05 t/ha) exhibited the highest yield followed by entry 9 and 13 (2.75 t/ha) and entry 3 (2.65 t/ha).

Objectives:

Methodology:

The trial consisted of 25 entries ,was conducted at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Gazipur during the rabi serason of 2014-2015. It was laid out in a RCBD with two replications. Each entry was sown in a unit plot of 6 rows 2.5m long with row spacing of 25 cm and seeds were sown continuously. Standard agronomic practices were followed as and when necessary. Five randomly selected plants were used for data collection. Data were recorded on days to heading and maturity, plant height (cm), no. of fertile tillers per plant, spike length (cm), no. of grains per spike, 1000-grain wt. (g) and yield (t/ha).
