The experiment was conducted at the Multi-Location Testing (MLT) site, Melandah, Jamalpur during the rabi season 2013-14. The experiment consisted of nine treatmernts, viz. T1= Brinjal (100%)/sweet gourd (local) 2m×1.5m, T2= Brinjal (100%)/sweet gourd (BARI Mistikumra-2) 2m×1.5m, T3= Brinjal (100%)/sweet gourd (local) 2m×2m, T4= Brinjal (100%)/sweet gourd (BARI Mistikumra-2) 2m×2m, T5= Brinjal (100%)/sweet gourd (local) 2m×2.5m, T6= Brinjal (100%)/sweet gourd (BARI Mistikumra-2) 2m×2.5m, T7= Brinjal (100%)/sweet gourd (local) 2m×3m, T8= Brinjal (100%)/sweet gourd (BARI Mistikumra-2) 2m×3m, T9= Sole brinjal (Local) 100cm×75cm. The treatments were tested in randomized complete block design with six replications. The unit plot size was 10 m × 2m. The local variety (Bottle Begun) for brinjal and BARI Mistikumra-2 and local variety used for sweet gourd. Sweet gourd was sown in lines in between the brinjal rows maintaining the spacing of the respective treatments. The crop was fertilized with for sole brinjal and relay system: N173, P35, K125, S19 kg/ha and 10 t/ha CD. For sole sweet gourd: N81, P35, K75, S19, Zn4.36, B1.8 kg/ha along with MgO75 g/ha and 10 t/ha CD. For sole brinjal 138kg N, half potassium, all phosphorus and cowdung were applied at final land preparation. Remaining nitrogen was applied at 15, 50, 90 DAT and remaining potassium was applied at 15 and 50 DAT, respectively. For sole sweet gourd half phosphorus, 1/3rd potassium, 1/3rd cowdung and entire amount of gypsum, Zinc and Borax were applied at final land preparation. Remaining phosphorus, 1/3rd potassium and entire amount of MgO was applied in pit. Nitrogen was applied at 10, 30, 50, 70 DAP and remaining 1/3rd potassium was applied at 10 DAP, respectively. Brinjal seedlings were planted on September ,2013 and sweet gourd was planted on November 17-19, 2014. For brinjal two hand weeding was done at 15 and 30 DAT and for sweet gourd two hand weeding was done at 20 and 40 DAT. Brinjal was harvested on 6 November 2013 to January 18, 2014 and sweet gourd harvested on February 22 to April 22, 2014.
Equivalent yield of component crops were determined following the method of Anjaneyulu et al. (1982) as mentioned
Brinjal Equivalent Yield (BEY) =Yb+Yi X Pi
Pb
Where,
Yb = Yield of brinjal (t/ha)
Yi = Yield of intercrop vegetable (t/ha)
Pi = Price of intercrop vegetables (Tk/ha)
Pb = Price of brinjal (Tk/ha)
Data recorded on the different parameters were analysed and means
