Development of Alternate Cropping Pattern Mustard-boro-t.aus-t.aman Against Mustard-boro-t.aman Rice Cropping Pattern

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted at Moddha Katholi, Gabtoli, Bogra (AEZ 3) during November 2013–October 2014 to increase cropping intensity and productivity. Four crops based cropping sequences were compared in the study. The patterns were Mustard–Boro–T.Aus-T.Aman (FA) and Mustard–Boro–Fallow-T.Aman (Farmers practice-FP). The highest rice equivalent yield (16.43 t ha^-1) was recorded from alternate pattern (AP). Inclusion of T.Aus and modern variety of mustard in FA increased rice equivalent yield by 39.24% compared to FP.

Objectives:

To evaluate four crops based cropping pattern against Farmers practice .

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at Modho Katholi, Gabtoli, Bogra (AEZ 3) during November 2013–October 2014. Four crops based cropping sequences were compared in the study. The treatments were FA= Mustard–Boro–T.Aus-T.Aman and F = Mustard–Boro–Fallow- T.Aman (Farmers practice). The experiment was laid out RCBD with 6 dispersed replications. Recommended fertilizer dose was given following FRG 2012. In Mustard, half N and full amount of PKSZnB were applied as basal. The remaining ½ N was top-dressed at 25 days after planting (DAP) followed by irrigation. Other two irrigations were given at 45 and 60 DAP. In Boro, full amount of PKSZn were applied as basal. Forty-day aged seedlings of BRRI dhan28 were transplanted. Nitrogen was top dressed in three equal splits at 15, 30 and 45 days after transplanting (DAT). In T.Aus rice, full amount of PKSZnB were applied as basal. Twenty-day aged seedlings were transplanted. Nitrogen was top dressed in two equal splits at 9 and 25 days after transplanting (DAT). In T.Aman, the full amount of PKSZn was applied as basal. Thirty two day aged seedling of Binadhan-7 was transplanted. Nitrogen was top dressed in three equal splits at 15, 30 and 45 days after transplanting (DAT). Other intercultural operations were done as when required in all crops. Grain/seed yield was taken from whole plot and converted into t ha^-1. Data on yield and yield components of the crops were analyzed statistically. The cost and return analysis was calculated on the basis of prevailing market price of the commodities.

Achievement/Findings:

Alternate cropping pattern Mustard–Boro–T.Aus-T.Aman could be a economically viable and suitable technology against existing cropping pattern of Mustard–Boro–Fallow- T.Aman at Gabtoli, Bogra. This finding might be used for large scale dissemination and adoption.
