Hybridization and advancement of F1 to F5 generations were conducted during Rabi 2013-14 at PRC, Ishurdi, Pabna and PRSS Gazipur. Nine parents were used and a total of 484 successful crossed seeds were collected from twenty six cross combinations. From F1, F2 F3, F4 and F5 generation Six, eleven, five, six, and four progenies were selected respectively considering higher yield and other desirable traits with resistance against stemphylium blight.

To create genetic variability among the population.

A hybridization programme was done using nine parents during rabi 2013-14 at PRC, Ishurdi Pabna and PRSS, Gazipur for the development of high yielding, Fe and Zn enriched with stemphylium blight resistant lentil varieties. The plot size was 2 rows 4 m long. Spacing between two rows was 40 cm and between plots was 1.2 m. Post sowing irrigation was given to ensure seed germination. Intercultural operation was done as and when necessary. Emasculation and pollination were done from 7:30 AM to 10:00 AM up to 15 days after flowering. Intensive care was taken to avoid pollen contamination. Hybridized buds were tied by colored thread pieces for easy identification.

A total of 457 successful crossed seeds were collected from twenty cross combinations. Maximum numbers of successful cross seeds were found in LRIL 22-39 X LRIL 21-220. F1 seeds have been stored for next year evaluation.
