“study on the Effect of Processing Parameters of the Spinning Machine on the Physical Properties of Jute Yarn”

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experimental investigation for the production of jute yarn of 241 tex and 275 tex has been conducted. In this investigation a laboratory type Slip Draft Spinning machine of 40 flyers with 40 dead spindles has been used for the study. Bangla White B (BWB) grade jute fibre was used as raw material for the production of jute yarn. The input sliver of the experimental machine was controlled from the very beginning of the back process. The Optimum parameter of processing machinery for making yarns are Breaker card’s delivery speed of cylinder: 2335 inch/min, Finisher card’s delivery speed of cylinder: 1830 inch/min, Draft of 1st, 2nd and 3rd Drawing frame: 4.0, 6.3 and 5.4.For 241 tex jute yarn, Draft: 11,Flyer speed: 4700 rpm, Twist: 189 tpm (turns per metre) and for 275 tex jute yarn: Draft: 11, Flyer speed: 4800 rpm, Twist: 181 tpm (turns per metre) are suitable for producing quality yarn in Slip draft spinning frame. Physical properties of the produced yarns such as load at break, strain percentage, tenacity at break, textile modulus, and quality ratio were tested. Some empirical relations have been developed between the processing parameters of the machine and physical properties of the yarn.

Objectives:

a.To optimize the back processing machinery such as breaker card, finisher card and drawing frame for making suitable sliver for production of quality jute yarn with better physical properties.

b. To optimize the machine parameters such as draft, flyer speed, twist of spinning frame for production of quality jute yarn.

c. To analyze the quality of the produced yarn in order to determine and suggest their acceptable properties.

Methodology:

In the experiment a slip draft flyer-spinning machine of 40 spindles was used. Forty bobbin carriers are set on the dead spindle. Flyer speed and twist were optimized through a series of experimental studies. Flyer speeds and twists were changed from time to time according to the need of a particular experiment. Changing the draft change pinion from its available range changes the draft of the machine. The draft constant of the machine is 600 and the required draft was selected by the formula: Draft = draft constant (600) ÷ number of teeth of the draft change pinion [4,5]. Similarly twist of the yarn was inserted by changing twist change pinion. Inserted twist of the yarn is given by the relation: twist constant ÷ number of teeth in the twist change pinion. Changing the motor pulley of the machine varies flyer speed of the machine. In every case, parameters were changed for determining the jute yarn of desirable quality processing better physical properties. The machinery with following sequences such as Softener, Breaker Card, Finisher Card, Drawing Frames and Spinning machine were used in the experiment.

Achievement/Findings:

Application of optimum parameters could produce better quality yarns with higher productivity; Empirical equations have been established between the processing parameters of the machine and physical properties of the yarn that can be used within the experimental regime parameters; The results obtained from the experimental machine could make a very attractive package for jute industry where slip draft spinning machines are in use; The findings could have a direct impact on the jute industry and can be able to produce better quality jute yarns by adopting the method suggested.
