Experimental Site - The experiment was carried out at Narsingdi region (Latitude: 23? 55′ 22″ N and Longitude: 90? 43′ 03″ E) of Bangladesh especially Regional Horticulture Research Centre, BARI, Shibpur, Narsingdi during Rabi season of October, 2014 to April, 2015. The land type was sandy loam soil. A soil test was conducted three months before of planting time and analytical data of soil sample was presented. Experiment design - Four strawberry genotypes i.e. RABI 2 (V1), RABI 3 (V2), Camarosa (V3), and Festival (V4) were included in study with BARI Strawberry-1 as check. RABI 2 and RABI 3 were collected from Rajshahi which were developed by Rajshahi University. Camarosa and Festival were exotic genotypes which were collected by Narsingdi Belabo and BARI Strawberry 1 was collected from BARI, Gazipur. The trail was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. The unit plot consisted of angle raised bed of 1 m×3 m size accommodating 12 plants in double row system with 50 cm × 40 cm spacing. The thirty days aged runner of strawberry plant was planted in field on 20 October, 2014. Cultural practices - The land was fertilized with Cowdung, N, P, K, S, Zn, and B @ 10000, 90, 36, 80, 18, 1.5, and 0.7 kg/ha, respectively (FRG 2012) in the form of Urea, TSP, MoP, Gypsum, Zinc sulphate, and Borax. Entire Cowdung, TSP, Gypsum, Zinc sulphate, Borax, and 1/3rd of MoP were applied in 3 equal splits 15, 30, and 45 days after transplanting. Irrigation was provided once in a week. The transplanted seedlings were always kept under careful observation. Mulching was provided with rice straw after the transfer of runner in the experiment field. Fruits were protected from birds with the help of nets. Weeding and other intercultural operations were performed when necessary for better growth and development of the plants during the period of the experiment. As strawberry is a temperature sensitive crop, so during cropping period to deliver partial solar shading, tunnel cover with nylon net and mulching was added with this experiment. Data record and statistical analysis - Days to first flowering and harvest duration data were started counting from when transplanting of runners were planted in the main field on 20th October. Data on different parameters related with experiment such as days to flowering, harvest duration, number of leaves/plant, leaf length (cm), leaf breadth (cm), plant spreading, number of fruits/plant, number of fruits/plot, weight of individual fruit (g), weight of fruits/plant (g), weight of fruits/plot (kg), fruits length (cm), fruits breath (cm), fruit total soluble solids (TSS), and yield (t/ha) were recorded. Fruit quality parameter such as fruit shape, fruit color, and flesh color were determined through eye estimation according to IBPGR (1986). For sensory testing scaling tests were performed (Kramer and Szczesniak 1973). The panel was consisting of 10 members, who after smelling and tasting rated the fruits according to a 1-9 scale for flavor intensity: 1 = extremely weak strawberry flavor, 9 = extremely strong strawberry flavor. Similar rating scale was used by Patrick et al. 1981. TSS was measured by pocket hand refractometer (ATAGO). Every bed 10 strawberry plants were selected and data were recorded. All statistical analysis was conducted using Statistical Tool for Agricultural Research (STAR) version 2.0.1. Analysis of variance was calculated and significant means was separated at 5% level of significance by DMRT.
