Evaluation of Selected Cherry Tomato Genotype at Different Locations

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiments were carried out with two advanced cherry tomato genotypes viz.Cherolla and Trumbling Red along with a check variety Binatomato-10 at 5 locations during November 2017-March 2018. The experiments were laid out following a randomized complete block design with three replications. The genotype Trumbling Red produced shortest plants with greater number of branches. Cherolla produced the lowest number of branches plant^-1. Amongst three genotypes, Cherolla performed the poorest in case of yield attributes and fruit yield at all five locations. Out of five locations Binatomato-10 produced the highest fruit yield at only one location whilst Trumbling Red performed the best at four locations. The fruit yield was higher in Trumbling Red due to increase number of fruits plant^-1. Trumbling Red showed the highest mean yield over locations followed by Binatomato-10.

Objectives:

To evaluate the productivity of cherry tomato genotypes grown in different locations of Bangladesh and find out suitable genotype for release as a variety.

Methodology:

The experiments were carried out with two advanced cherry type tomato genotypes viz. Cherolla and Trumbling Red along with a check variety Binatomato-10 at 5 locations during November 2017-March 2018. The locations were BINA farm, Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Rangpur, Magura and Ishurdi. The experiments were laid out following a randomized complete block design with three replicates having a unit plot size of 4 m × 5 m. Row to row and plant to plant distances were 50 cm. The half dose of cow dung (10 ton ha^-1) and full dose of TSP (400 kg ha^-1) were applied during land preparation. Rest of cow dung was applied during transplantation. Urea (500 kg ha^-1) and MP (200 kg ha^-1) were applied in two splits at 15 and 35 days after transplanting. Data on morphological, yield and yield attributes were recorded at harvest from 10 randomly selected plants in each plot and fruit yield was taken from the whole plot and converted into kg ha^-1. Data were analyzed statistically and Dunkun’s Multiple Range Test was done to compare the means.
