A field trial was conducted at Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI), Comilla (Grey Terrace Soil, AEZ 15) during Boro 2015-16 seasons for determining N, P, K, Zn and S requirement of some BRRI released rice varieties. In Boro season, three BRRI released rice varieties BRRI dhan60 and BRRI dhan69 were compared with BRRI dhan58. Six fertilizer treatments viz. T1= N omission (-N), T2= P omission (-P), T3= K omission (-K) , T4= S omission (-S) , T5= Zn omission (-Zn) , T6= NPKZnS (STB) were imposed in the main plot and rice varieties in the subplots following split-plot design with three replications. The data from the field (yield components) as well as lab analysis (quality parameters) was recorded according to the standard procedures statistically with the software Crop Stat 7.2 version. In Boro season, BRRI dhan69 gave slightly higher grain yield than BRRI dhan58 and they required much lower N and K than added nutrients. However, BRRI dhan60 required higher and BRRI dhan69 required lower N than the recommended dose. BRRI dhan60 needed higher N and P and lower K than applied nutrients with similar grain yield of check variety.

To determine the requirement of the primary nutrients before releasing a new variety.

Field trials were conducted at BRRI farm, Comilla (AEZ 15) during Boro 2015-16 seasons. Different types BRRI released varieties were evaluated and compared with BRRI varieties following site specific nutrient management to determine the N, P, K, Zn and S requirements. In Boro season, BRRI dhan60 and BRRI dhan69 were compared with BRRI dhan58. Six fertilizer treatments viz. Six fertilizer treatments viz. T1= N omission (-N), T2= P omission (-P), T3= K omission (-K), T4= S omission (-S), T5= Zn omission (-Zn) , T6= NPKZnS (STB) were imposed in the main plot and rice varieties in the subplots following a split-plot design with three replications. Fertilizer doses were NPKZnS @ 145-31-77-13-1.5 kg/ha in Boro season. Thirty seven day-old seedlings in Boro season were transplanted at 20-× 20-cm spacing. Standard management practices were followed for growing the crops. All plots were surrounded by 100 cm soil levees to avoid contamination between plots. At maturity the crop was harvested manually at 15 cm above ground level, 16 hills from each plot at the ground level for total straw yield data. Grain yield was recorded at 14% moisture content and straw yield as oven dry basis.The nutrient requirement of the rice genotypes were calculated assuming that 18 kg N, 3 kg P and 20 kg K are required per ton grain yield and recovery of applied fertilizer nutrient by rice plant is 30% N, 20% P and 50% K.

BRRI dhan58 & BRRI dhan69 produced higher yield less urea fertilizer doses. If we give the doses less 15-25% but yield statistically not reduced, however BRRI dhan60 required higher and BRRI dhan69 required lower N than the recommended dose. BRRI dhan60 needed higher N and P and lower K than applied nutrients with similar grain yield of check variety.
