Response of Mv Rice to Added Potassium in Boro-fallow-t.aman Cropping Pattern in Aez 11

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Application of balanced fertilizer is of prime importance for optimum crop production. Among the nutrients, potassium (K) requirement of the soils of Bangladesh is increasing day by day due to continuing mining of K from intensively cropped soil and subsequently imbalanced used of K in these soils. The use of K is even required in soils with optimum K level to maintain its level and to replenish its reserve in the soils. The experiment was set up in Farmer's field in Kushtia, AEZ 11 during Boro 2017-18. Treatments used were 0, 25, 50 and 75 kg K/ha with two HYV rice. The effect of K application on the grain yield of BRRI dhan28 and BRRI dhan63 was not statistically significant. However, the average grain yield of the varieties increased slightly with K @ 50-75 kg/ha. Although the soil K level was optimum, it is apparent that at least 50 kg/ha K should be applied in Boro rice for optimum grain yield and to maintain soil K level.

Objectives:

To determine the optimum and maintenance potassium (K) doses for Rice-Fallow-Rice cropping pattern in AEZ11.

Methodology:

The experiment was set up in Farmer's field in Baradi, Kushtia, situated in a medium lowland having 0.23 meq K/100 g soil during Boro 2017-18. Four treatments were used with K doses @ 0, 25, 50 and 75 kg/ha. Other major and micronutrients were applied on soil test basis. Test varieties were BRRI dhan28 and BRRI dhan63. The experiment was laid out in Factorial RCBD with three replications.

Achievement/Findings:
