Study of Flowering Pattern in Ten Lentil Varieties

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A pot experiment was carried out at BINA pot yard, Mymensingh during November 2017 to February 2018 to assess the flowering pattern and its relationship with seed yield of lentil released varieties. The experiment was laid out in a Completely Randomized Design with three replications. Flowers counts were recorded from each plant of each replication just from the date of first flowering and there after every day up to flowering ceased. At harvest, seed yield and yield attributes were recorded. Per cent pod set to opened flowers (reproductive efficiency, RE) was then estimated as: % pod set = (Number of pod plant^-1 ÷ Number of opened flowers plant^-1) × 100. The collected data were analyzed statistically. The flowering peak ranged from 10-25 days after flowering (DAF) and flowering duration range from 25 to 40 DAF. High yielding varieties in general had high number of flowers. The varieties with shorter flowering duration showed higher reproductive efficiency.
