Effects of Poultry Manure and Different Inorganic Fertilizers on Growth, Yield and Nutrient Content of Boro Rice (brri Dhan29)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A research works on the effect of poultry manure and different inorganic fertlizers on growth yield and nutrient content of boro rice (BRRI dhan29) was conducted at Shakhepur, Tangail during the period of 2013. The research works consisted of 4 doses (0, 50, 75 and 100% of recommended dose) of poultry manure and 4 doses (0, 50, 75 and 100% of recommended dose) of inorganic fertilizers (Urea, TSP and MoP) which were laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) taking sixteen treatments with three replications in boro season. Calculating benefit cost ratio PM3F3 combination (100% poultry manure and 100% inorganic fertilizer) and PM3F2 (100% poultry manure and 75% inorganic fertilizer) shows better performances. Application of above mentioned two treatment combination contribute the highest grain yield in boro rice. It was observed that the grain and straw yields as well as the yield attributing parameters like plant height, panicle length, filled grains per panicle and 1000 grain weight were significantly influenced. The maximum grain yield was recorded in treatment combination PM3F3 statistically similar with PM3F2 and minimum grain yield in (control). The overall results indicate that 100% poultry manure along with 75% inorganic fertilizer as the source of poultry manure could be the best treatment in producing higher rice yield with sustenance of soil fertility.

Objectives:

To develop a suitable integrated dose of inorganic fertilizers and poultry manure for boro rice and to observe the effects of different levels of inorganic fertilizers and poultry manure on the growth, yield and nutrients contents of boro rice.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at the Shakhepur under the districts of Tangail during the boro season of 2013.This soil of the experimental area Shakhepur, Tangail is characterized by a scanty rainfall associated with moderately low temperature in the rabi season (October-March). The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD),with three blocks. Each block was furnished 16 treatments combinations with 3 replications. The unit plot size was 1.5m x 2m and block was separated by 70 cm drains. Before land preparation, initial composite soil sample were collected at 0-15 cm depth from different spots and prepared for physical and chemical analysis. The physical and chemical characteristics of initial soils are given in the table 1.Factor A :organic manure (poultry manure)-4 levels (0, 50, 75 and 100% level of treatments of the recommended doses of Urea, TSP and MoP ). Factor B: Inorganic fertilizers (Urea, TSP and MoP) -4 levels (0, 50, 75 and 100% level of treatments of the recommended doses of Urea, TSP and MoP). Fertilizer recommendation guide, BARC, 2012. So, there were 16 treatment combinations were PM0F0, PM0F1, PM0F2, PM0F3, PM1F0, PM1F2, PM1F2, PM1F3, PM2F0, PM2F1, PM2F2, PM2F3, PM3F0, PM3F1, PM3F2 and PM3F3. Full amounts of TSP, MoP, gypsum and zinc sulphate were applied as basal dose before transplanting of rice seedlings. Urea were applied in 3 equal splits: one third was applied at basal before transplanting, one third at active tillering stage and the rest one third was applied at 6 days before panicle initiation stage. Poultry manure were applied before six days of final land preparation. Five weeks old seedlings BRRI dhan29 were transplanted in the plot on 25 January 2014. The line to line distances 20 cm and hill to hill 15 cm distances were maintained. Three seedlings per hill were transplanted. When 80-90% of the grains become golden yellow in color maturity of crop was determined.The harvesting of BRRI dhan29 was done on May 11, 2014. The grains were cleaned and sun dried to a moisture content of 12-13%. Straw was also sundried properly.Finally grain and straw yields were determined and converted to ton ha^-1. A partial budget was estimated which is useful to analyze relatively small changes in the farm business (Kay, 1981). Benefit Cost Ratios has been calculated for finding the most profitable combination in terms of total and net revenue and finally estimated economic analysis. The soil and manure samples were collected, processed and analyzed of N, P and K. The The N, P and K concentration of poultry manure were 0.92, 3.42 and 1.04 % respectively. The N concentration of poultry manure was determined by Micro-Kjeldahl method.The available P were determined by ascorbic acid blue color method (Olsen et al., 1954). Exchangeable K were determined by using flame photometer. The statistical analysis was done using the MSTAT-C (Russell, 1986) computer package program. Analysis of variance was done following two factors randomized complete block design. The mean differences among the treatments were compared by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at 5% level of significance.

From the results of the experiment, it may be concluded that BRRI dhan29 responded better to the nutrients supplied from the combined use of poultry manure and inorganic fertilizers thereby giving better growth and yield of boro rice. However, application of 100% poultry manure +75% inorganic fertilizer showed better performance .
