The experiment was conducted in the laboratory and field of Spices Research Centre, BARI, Shibganj, Bogura, Bangladesh during Rabi season of 2014-2015 to test the efficacy of some new fungicides in controlling anthracnose/die-back disease and increase yield of chilli. Nine new fungicides and one control were used as treatments. In vitro tests, Orion 72 WP (0.2%) significantly inhibited the radial mycelial growth of the pathogen (Colletotrichum capsici) in the PDA culture media. All the new fungicides significantly decreased the % leaf infection, % leaf area diseased (LAD), % twig infection, % fruit infection, % fruit area diseased (FAD) and increased fresh yield of chilli. Among the fungicides, Orion 72 WP showed the best performance.

To test the efficacy of some new fungicides in controlling anthracnose/die-back disease and increase yield of chilli.

The experiment was conducted at Spices Research Centre, BARI, Shibganj, Bogura, Bangladesh during Rabi season of 2014-2015. The experimental plot was thoroughly prepared by ploughing and cross ploughing with a power tiller followed by laddering. Fertilizers and manures were applied as per Anonymous (2011). The field experiment was laid out in RCBD with three replications. The size of the individual unit plot was 3.0 m × 2.0 m. Plant spacing was 50 cm × 40 cm. BARI Chilli-1 was used in the present experiment. The crop was planted on November 14, 2014. There were 10 different treatments (9 new fungicides and one control) designated by T1=Orion 72 WP (Mancozeb + Metalaxyl) @ 0.2%, T2=Indofil Z78 WP (Zinc Ethylenebis-dithiocarbonate) @0.2%, T3=Metarial 72WP (Metalaxyl 8%+Mancozeb 64%) @0.2%, T4=Proven 250EC (Propiconazole 25%EC) @0.05%, T5=Folicure 5EC (Hexaconazole) @0.05%, T6=Propicon 250EC (Propiconazole 25%EC) @0.05%, T7=Fuji one 40EC (Isoprothiolane) @0.05%, T8=Flowin HT (Mancozeb, 35%SG) @0.3%, T9=Winner 25 EC (Propiconazole- 25 EC) @0.05% and T10=control. The test fungicides were sprayed four times at 7 days intervals starting from the first appearance of disease symptoms. The last harvest of chilli was performed on May 15, 2015.  The disease incidence was recorded using the methodology, followed by Basak et al. (1991). Diseased fruit with typical symptom was collected for isolation of the organism in the laboratory. Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) media was prepared and transferred to glass petridishes. The leaf/fruit samples were cut into small pieces; each pieces contained diseased and healthy tissue surface sterilization with Clorox (1:1000) for 1 minute was done followed by three times washes with sterile water and were placed into PDA in petridish. Colony characters, mycelium growth, color and sporulation of the fungi were studied following the methods of Singh (1982). The solution of each fungicide was prepared by the particular dose of the fungicide in 100 ml PDA and mixed thoroughly. Hundred ml chemical mixed PDA of each conical flask was poured in five petridishes. Control media did not contain any fungicides. Mycelial block of Colletotrichum capsici was placed at the centre of chemical mixed PDA in petridishes including control. After three days, the mycelial growth of the C. capsici was observed and recorded, and continued up to 12 DAI for all treated plates. But in control plates, the growth of C. capsici was noted on all days. Per cent inhibition of mycelial growth over control was calculated by using the formula of Vincent (1947).

Data were recorded on Radial mycelial growth (mm) at 3, 6, 9 and 12 DAI, % Leaf infection, % leaf area diseased (LAD), % twig infection, % fruit infection, % fruit area diseased (FAD), Plant height, number of fruits/plant, weight of fruits/plant (g), fresh yield (t/ha). The means for all the treatments were counted and the analysis of variance was studied by F-test for the treatment means and replication means. The mean differences were evaluated for their significant level by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) as narrated by Gomez and Gomez (1984).

Laboratory tests and field performance of non-systemic and systemic fungicides significantly inhibited the radial mycelial growth of the anthracnose/die back pathogen, reduced the disease and increased fresh yield of chilli. Among them, Orion 72 WP showed the best performance.
