Evaluation of Lime Germplasm at Rars Jamalpur

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted at HRC, RARS, Jamalpur during 2018 to 2019. Four lime (Citrus limon) germplasm were evaluated. There were differences among the germplasm studied regarding plant height, base girth, canopy spreading, number of branches/plant, number of fruits per plant, fruit length, fruit breadth, individual fruit weight, yield per plant and yield per hectare. CL Jam-003 was found superior with the highest plant height of 2.76 m, large canopy size (3.00 m x 2.90 m) and number of branches (5.0).The highest number of fruits per plant was found in CL Jam-001(50) followed by CL Jam-003 (49) and the lowest was in CL Jam-004 (17). The highest individual fruit wt. was found in the line CL Jam-003 (63.4g) and the lowest was in the line CL Jam-004 (50.1g). The highest yield per plant was observed in the line CL Jam-003 (3.11 kg) and the lowest was in the line CL Jam-004 (0.85 kg).

Objectives:

The areas of citrus cultivation are increasing day by day. Most of the citrus are also very popular in Bangladesh. These are rich in Vitamin-C and some of them have medicinal value too. Some species are extensively used for table purpose; some are tasty, sweet and is very popular to the people of the country along with export potential. Hence the present study was undertaken.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at HRC, RARS, Jamalpur during 2018 to 2019. Four germplasm of lime was included in the study. Planting was done in August, 2015. Plants were fertilized with the recommended dose of manure and fertilizer (Ullah et. al., 2010). All of the accessions were fertilized with 12 kg well decomposed cowdung, 100 g urea, 100 g TSP and 100 g Mop 0n first week of October. Light irrigation was given after fertilization. 50 g Urea, 50 g TSP, 50 g MP and 25 g Furadan per plant was given each time on November, January and March. Two full cover spray of copper oxichloride (Amivit 50WP @ 7 g/lit of water) was applied to control canker disease. Imidachloprid (Imitaf @ 0.25 ml/L) was applied to control leaf miner when new leaves emerged. Weeding was done in rainy season before applying fertilizer.
