Evaluation of Colombo Lemon Germplasm

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The present study was conducted at HRC, RARS, Jamalpur during 2018 to 2019. Three Colombo lemon germplasm were evaluated in this study. A wide variation was observed in case of different growth characteristics of the Colombo lemon germplasm. CL Jam-002 was found superior with highest plant height of 3.11 m, large canopy size (3.65 x 3.70 m), the highest number of branches (6.2), highest number of fruit per plant (129) and highest yield per hectare. (33.86 t) whereas the line CL Jam-001 shown lowest performance.

Objectives:

These are rich in Vitamin-C and some of them have medicinal value too. Some species are extensively used for table purpose; some are tasty, sweet and is very popular to the people of the country along with export potential. Hence the present study was undertaken.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at HRC, RARS, Jamalpur during 2018 to 2019. Three germplasm of Colombo lemon was included in this study. Planting was done in August, 2015. Plants were fertilized with the recommended dose of manure and fertilizer (Ullah et. al., 2010). All of the accessions were fertilized with 12 kg well decomposed cowdung, 100 g urea, 100 g TSP and 100 g Mop 0n first week of October. Light irrigation was given after fertilization. 50 g Urea, 50 g TSP, 50 g MP and 25 g Furadan per plant was given each time on November, January and March. Two full cover spray of copper oxichloride (Amivit 50WP @ 7 g/lit of water) was applied to control canker disease. Imidachloprid (Imitaf @ 0.25 ml/L) was applied to control leaf miner when new leaves emerged. Weeding was done in rainy season before applying fertilizer. Data on plant height, base girth, canopy spreading, branching density and growth condition was taken.

Fruits of different Colombo lemon germplasm showed variation among themselves in fruit characteristics under study. CL Jam-002 was found superior with highest plant height of 3.11 m lowest was found in the line CL Jam-003(2.91 m). Large canopy size (3.65m x 3.70m) was observed in CL Jam-002 and small canopy in the line CL Jam-003 (2.90x 2.57 m). Number of branches was highest in CL Jam-002 (6.2) and the lowest in CL Jam-003 (4). Number of fruit per plant (129) and the highest yield (33.86 t/ha) were recorded from the line CL Jam-002 whereas the line CL Jam-003 shown the lowest number of fruit per plant (75) and lowest yield (17.34 t/ha.).
